Whats the point of showing ranks when it provides almost no extra info than the elo rating?

If you want to find the better player between the two, just simply compare their elo, the higher the better (generally speaking). Heck you can even somehow calculate the H2H odds between them.

Whats the point of ranks when the denominator (total players on the ladder) isnt shown anywhere other than third party websites?

Because it is kind of cool to see where you sit in the overall scheme of things, and it gives you a way to explain to people who are not familiar with the game where you are at.

I hit a new PB recently, and I was able to tell my sister that I'd cracked the top x amount players for the first time. Which means a heck of a lot more than, "I reached x Elo today".

I think it would it would be cool for the on game ranking to show what percentile you are aswell, currently that's online available through external sources.

Top X means nearly nothing when theres no denominator. Getting a bronze in olympics is sick, but getting a bronze in a race with only 3 people is meh.

UI / UX is part of the product


Also I myself want ranks to be more visual, so we know teammates / opponents level once we get into the loading screen.

Dont agree on all the others, but adding the total amount of players on the ladder somewhere is definitely an easy task, let it be hover pannel or the leaderboard page.

Adding "rank labels" (Bronze / Diamond / Champion / Knight / etc) or even visualising them might be harder, but thats another story.

I find that usually the higher rated player just picked better civs than random
