Its when u do all correctly, but when from some reason it turns into complete fail, and nothing works as expected (ur units die fast while enemy's survive ) :D hehe joking, dont have an idea... but this reminded me on my recent patrol fails, so I made a post for entertaining
Sometimes your units who are patrolled walk past enemy units like ******s never aiming at them and die without any real fight. Its usually to blame when you control your units really bad :D
It has been fixed in 1.1 and AoFE. The bug is a consequence of 2 things: the delay with which units attack (10 in AoC, 4 in 1.1 (if I'm not mistaken). And something with retargeting of ranged units which has been fixed too
i dint know abt aok patrol
i checked it after few ppl were saying abt it
they do auto attack as soon as patroll starts
in aoc it already takes 2 seconds + lag seconds 11
but sometimes melee units get into stand ground mode in middle of patrol. i will say this as bug
There is also another patrol bug: if your patrol unit targets a villager and then this villager gets garrisoned while in LOS of its predator, then your unit will stay totally idle for 30-60". This one is not fixed in 1.1 afaik. It also affects AI attack-groups.
If you want to test, try attacking with a scorpion.
The initial reaction delay was increased in Conquerors. This allows units to go away from current target. With 1.1, units usually can't stick out of current (immpbile) target unless if you move them a few tiles before setting new patrol. I suspect that the main reason for the AOC team to change it was cpu performance, though.
