So I've been playing around with this lately and it's sooooo much smoother and way better quality than viewing through twitch directly. Only disadvantage is that u'll still have to open a browser (or setup an IRC client) to view the channel chatbox.
BIG BONUS: you can use the 60fps smoothening (=motion interpolation) software on basically every video you can play on your computer!! (you just need to play it with MPC and have SVP manager running)
PC Requirements:
To do this with atleast 720p quality streams you'll need a pc with an i5 or i7 series CPU. You can try with lower class hardware but I don't know if your pc will suffice.
Step-by-step:
SVP: This does some magic stuff (which I won't explain here, google it yourself if you really want to know) that makes your video's 60 FPS while they're playing. (it does require a lot of cpu but u can put it on lower quality smoothing if play around in its settings)
Go to this link http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Download and download the latest version.
Now install SVP with the default options.
Livestreamer: go to this link https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases and download the latest version.
Now install livestreamer with the default options. At the end of the installation choose to open the configuration file.
You will now get this view:
Find the first line in the red circle. Now change the second line to what u see in the picture. You can now save the file.
Windows: open windows explorer and go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer".
rightclick on livestreamer.exe and click on "create shortcut". it will say something about making it on your desktop, click "yes".
Next u want to go to your desktop and find the shortcut you just made. Right click on it and select "properties".
You will see the "target" field (red circle on the picture). By default it looks something like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe" as you can see in the picture.
What we want to do is add the URL of the stream you want to watch and that you want to watch it on source quality.
so first the target line looked like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe"
but now it looks like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe" http://www.twitch.tv/vooblyofficial best
(if you want to watch someone else then change vooblyofficial to the channel of your choice.)
(for example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Livestreamer\livestreamer.exe" http://www.twitch.tv/pleasebegentle_ best)
now run the shortcut. A black CMD will open which will then open MPC (=the video player you need to use for SVP to work).
Now for the last step. Getting that smooth 60fps experience! You'll only need to run the SVP manager you installed at the start of all this.
You know it running if some yellow letters appear on your video and then disappear. You will now notice you video is A LOT smoother too. (If yellow text appears saying your SVP index is too low then your pc is problably not fast enough to smooth the current video)
There you go, now go and have fun!
You can easily open other videos or films with MPC and SVP too to enjoy that 60FPS experience
