1. Qualification Stage - 128 Teams |
There will be 8 invited teams, these will advance directly to the Group Stage and are seeded one in each group based on their estimated strength, past achievements, and average rating.
All other participating teams must go through the Qualification Stage. The Qualification stage is played as a single elimination bracket with a duration of 2 weeks, teams are seeded based on the stated criteria. The 32 victorious teams will advance to the Group Stage, where they will join the other 8 invited teams.
The Qualification Stage is to be played as a Best of 5 in the following manner:
Game 1: 3v3, WiC_Map_Pack_v4, Hidden Different Civilizations per Team. (See Rule D under "Gaming Rules")
Game 2: 3v3, WiC_Dry_Arabia, Hidden Different Civilizations per Team.

2. Group Stage - 40 Teams |
The Group Stage consists of 8 groups with 5 teams in each group. This stage is played as a round robin, with each game representing one point. The two teams with the highest number of points in each group advance.
The winner of each group moves directly to the Double Elimination, while 2nd placed teams enter the WiC Duel Stage round.
If there are 2 or more teams in a group with the same number of points, the head-to-head game will be the deciding factor. If head to head games cannot decide then Win % as in the Group stage will decide.
Example:
Team a - 12 points
Team b - 9 points
Team c - 9 points
Team b vs Team c Result → 2:3
Team c advances.

3. WiC Duel Stage - 24 hours to request |
The WiC Duel Stage is potentially a single round for all teams that achieved 2nd in their group. This means that if one of these teams believes they have a better chance on the other side of the bracket, they can demand a match against their exact bracket opposite to compete for their position in the bracket. The opposing team can't refuse this request, and will have to play the demanded match. The outcome of this match will decide whether the teams get to keep their spot or if the swap will be made. Should both teams challenge the other, their positions will be swapped without a match taking place.
Teams have 24 hours to request a Duel. No request will be accepted after this time.

6. Grand Final - 2 Teams |
The Grand Final is split into four different rounds. All the four rounds will consist of one particular game type, with 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 games taking place on each round. This means if round 1 is the 4v4 round, then only 4v4's will be played that round to determine the winner of round 1. Each complete round won will achieve 1 point. Games won only count for each round, so for eg. Round 1 could see Team A winning 9-0 but Team A only achieve 1 point won, the 9-0 does not carry over to Round 2. This will continue until all four rounds are played and we have crowned a champion of War is Coming.
Even if the score is 5-0, all the games of the series will be played because there is a prize for each game of the whole matchup. This means that a team can be up 5-0, and theoretically have won the best of 9 and the point, the remaining games will still be played to award the prizes for the remaining games. So we get to see all games played competitively.
The first round is the game type of 4v4, but the following rounds will be decided by the team that lost the previous round. This means that if Team A wins the 4v4 series, then Team B can decide wheter the next matchup played is going to be the 1v1, 2v2 or the 3v3 round. If the losing team doesn't want to choose the next series, it will follow the pattern below.
The Grand Final Stage will be played in the following manner:
1v1 A player can play a maximum of 2 games.
2v2 A player can only team up with another player twice.
3v3 The team have to make a minimum of one change to the line up for each game.
4v4 is free for teams to decide themselves.
If any round becomes 4-4 then Game 9 all restrictions are removed. Any player(s) combination can be used
In the 1v1 Round Game 9 again restrictions are removed. Any player can be used.

The administrators will run the War is Coming tournament and will help Teams in various situations.
Tournament Administrators:

The War is Coming 2014 - OFFICIAL RULES |
1. General Rules |
- All Teams must respect the Tournament schedule and times for each round. This is a team event and there will be NO exceptions or delays granted to ANY team. No excuse will be accepted for failing to play in the specified time. If the admin staff determine that a team is trying to avoid scheduling and playing the tournament games, the Team(s) may be warned, receive an admin loss for the game or match or be disqualified from the War is Coming tournament.
- If both Teams cannot come to an agreement in scheduling their match, the Staff will analyze the situation, schedule, and time zones, in order to add a viable Admin Time that suits both Teams, to the best of our ability.
- Every team member must respect their opponent. Bad behavior (determined by staff) will result in a warning and may lead to an immediate disqualification of a whole team. This tournament values not only great skills, but also sportsmanship and fairness. Any insult, racism or flaming will not be tolerated. Laming and mind games in game are allowed.
- All Team Captains have agreed to the No Smurf rule. Each team must submit all relevant player usernames for Admin discussion. Smurfing and account sharing is not allowed. Any discovery of the mentioned will result in Team disqualification.
- All games are by default to be played in the Voobly Tournament Lobby using the WiC 2014 Ladder. If both Teams agree to play in another lobby on Voobly, that is accepted as well.
- In Round 1 & 2 of the Qualification Stage, Immediately after completion of each match, the winning Team has to rename the recorded games according to the rules and post them in the War is Coming Recorded Games section( → *add link when created*) of that respective round.
- From The WiC Duel Stage and the remaining rounds, the participating Teams' captains will have access to a very own Team Zone under the War is Coming category in the left menu. There will be a Topic dedicated to your specific matchup, and Immediately after two teams have finished a match, both teams are to rename their recorded games according to the rules and post them in the respective match topic. The Admins will then release the recorded games to the public with spoilers to avoid revealing the result.
- Before posting, the recorded game files must be renamed in the following format:
Game naming examples:
WiC Qualification Bear_Grylls (POV) vs Wild_Nature G1 Arabia.mgz
WiC Group Stage Bear_Grylls (POV) vs Wild_Nature G2 Islands.mgz

- Additional time to complete your games will NOT be allowed under any circumstances!
- All the games must be scheduled and confirmed by both Teams in the War is Coming Scheduling forums ( → *add link when ready*), informing the other team of the exact date and time of the arranged games.
- If there is no agreement about the playing time by Thursday 23.59 GMT, the staff might start interfering in order to get the games scheduled and completed in time.
- In case of disconnections, the game must be saved and restored. All of the .mgz recorded game files (multiple parts of the game before/after drop) must be provided when posting the recorded games.
If restoring is not possible, the recorded game should be provided, along with any additional information to the Administration of the War is Coming instantly. Subsequently, facts will be analyzed and a final decision made.
- Once two Teams have arranged and confirmed a time to play, the maximum waiting time is 30 minutes. If one of the teams fails to arrive, the waiting team must take a screenshot showing http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx (so the current time is clearly visible) with the Tournament Lobby Game Room, and post the screenshot in Admin Requests topic, with a link to the post in the Scheduling forums where the game time was arranged and confirmed. This way, tournament admins will know how long the team waited and upon Admins decision, the team that did not come might get an Admin Loss for the games. Do not try to edit time arrangement posts in an attempt to get free wins, because our forum registers the exact date and hour of each edited post. Such actions are considered cheating, and the offender will be punished according to rules.

- By signing up for the tournament you agree to have all your games streamed and casted by the official streaming team of the War is Coming through using the Spectator Mode on Voobly, brought by the Userpatch 1.4 RC version. The streams will always have a delay to avoid cheating, and no other persons are allowed to spectate your game besides the official streamers, or if persons are granted permission by the tournament Administration for a valid reason. There is no assurance of your games being streamed, but the possibility is there at all times.
- New rules can be added and current rules can be changed. However, Admins MUST inform the Teams about such changes in the War is Coming Rules & Settings forum. All the latest additions in Rules / Settings will be in red.

During DM games, the construction of Bombard Towers is strictly vorbidden!
- In the event of a no-TC start ( example: Land Nomad, Nomad etc) - that is a start where players do not have Town Centers but only villagers:
The first buildings constructed must be either a Town Center, Dock,Mill or Lumber camp.
No Barracks, no Palisade Wall and no more than one House may be build until the first TC is up.
No TC fighting is allowed. If it happens the game must be replayed. Should the administration decide that a TC fight occurred intentionally, the Team will receive an admin loss for that game.
Before 5 minutes of game time you cannot block another TC being built by using villager(s). You cannot intentionally kill enemy boars, sheep or deer. You cannot sit under an enemy TC to steal sheep. After 5 minutes player's are free to do any of the above.
- If a player starts with a stuck villager, his Team may decide to restart the game, but this must be said during the first 4 minutes. A restart requested due to a stuck villager does not count as one of the restarts awarded before a series.
- On the map WiC_nC@Decentring_v1 and WiC_Team_Acropolis_v3 it is strictly forbidden to delete straggler trees from opponents (using the "palisade trick"). On the map WiC_nC@Decentring_v1 it is also forbidden to kill enemy deer by landing villagers on their initial island.
- Restarts:
In a Best of 5 each Team is awarded ONE restart each.
In a Best of 7 each Team is awarded ONE restart each.
In a Best of 9 each Team is awarded ONE restart each.
In the 5 game series in the Round Robin, each Team is awarded ONE restart.
In Game 4 of the Round Robin Stage (3x 1v1 Simultaneous matches), each player is allowed to call a restart, as there is no way to know if a team mate has called a restart on the other matches. This/these Restart(s) will count as the only restart that each team has at its disposal at the beginning of the series.
A restart must be requested no longer than 4 minutes of game time (remember that this is shorter than real minutes). Games that are restarted must be included when posting recorded games of the match. When a game is restarted, the civilizations must be the same as in the previous attempt. If a restart is requested while playing the WiC_Map_Pack_v4, the map that was generated must be repeated by choosing the specific map that was played.
If a restart is called on a MegaRandom map, the same map must be used but the random feature will be decided by the map pack,
- All players must use the "WiC Mod" created to move coinage to castle age and banking to imperial age : WiC Mod Download. Every game played during the War is Coming tournament MUST use this modification. There are no further restrictions on slinging. Teams are free to sling and tribute as many resources and at any time they want.
