Tbh, as one streamer (who lives off it) with thousands on this topic mentioned, some months ago on this topic, he said something like: “Let’s be serious about something for a moment chat. If there was no money to be made from streaming, no one would be streaming 8 hours a day or more. There would be no xqc.”But nowdays, people just stream for money and I am tired of this **** because its been toxic for a long time. Stop supporting these so called tournaments because these players dont really care about the game like the normal player does., they just want the fking money. Tournaments everyfucking single day for the same ****ing guys. People are tired of this.
Basically they chase the income, and if this means destroying AoE2 they will, without a doubt. It happened before with the transition to age of mythology.
He is completely right too. There would be no Felix, no pokimane, and there would certainly be no Amouranth (doubt she do the things she does for free). It would literally be financially impossible unless someone was taking care that streamer or they were left an inheritance (or won the lottery to add). That means no Viper, no T90, no Daut, etc.
Never worded my whole thoughts on this topic and the other one before, but at the same time, I don’t believe in suddenly ‘dropping’ viewers for a bigger check mainly for a company like Facebook which has had too many skeletons popping out of the closet since Cambridge Analytica (pretty sure a move to youtube would be received very differently or would it?). This kind of reminds me of Kevin Costner who was married to his high-school sweetheart I believe, then he becomes famous and decides to drop her for a more beautiful, sexy woman. Stuff like that just doesn’t feel right tbh. No matter how it is justified. Those viewers (or clowns as it was worded in R’s post [R has a lot of good points to add too btw, but that’s the one word that bothers me]) are the reason some streamers are able to even earn a living solely from it. Fans give pretty much every celebrity their name as MJ once said. If viewers weren’t watching them, talking about them, donating/subscribing to them, they wouldn’t have the name they do. Pretty sure that means the Facebook proposition probably never would’ve happened as well. Someone I suppose was watching them, took note of their popularity, and wanted them. Feels quite complicated because of that. Personally, I wouldn’t have taken it no matter how much Facebook would’ve offered me, but that’s just me.
I’d also add on a last note that from the leak and it being talked about here, is that it looked like both weren’t anywhere near poverty for instance (from having been in poverty before, if it were/is the case then I’d understand them more). So it looked like they weren’t doing poorly unless they were trying to live in Monaco. Wasn’t even the full picture with the numbers. I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence though, so I wouldn’t take this paragraph too seriously.
