UP has spectator-mode in-the-works, but almost done and ready, for a possible future version.
Here are the main features:
*) allows configurable/any number of spectators, per game
*) allows spectating any SP or MP game, including 4v4s
*) all players in game will know if and how many spectators are allowed
*) doesn't add any major lag or overhead to the game being played, regardless of number of spectators (up to a point)
*) minimal bandwidth, per spectator (1-5KBps)
*) full map, POV/fog and status of all players are available, during the show, for the spectators
*) classical achievements/stats/timeline are available at anytime, during the show, for the spectators
*) the overall concept is tested, solid, very reliable and is straightforward for the spectators wishing to join
The concept and more details about this new mode remain in secret for now, to be presented in (hopefully near) future.
