I don't really get why using the word 'rape' in video games has become fashionable. I was watching the tyrant v cz stream at work (lol) and a caster used it, thank god my volume was low.
I mean I get the natural progression of the language we use to express the domination of winner over loser in video games. When I first started playing online it was "owned" (which I took as a reference to slavery) then "pwned" then blahblah whatever now we've arrived at "rape" to denote the ultimate demise of a losing competitor. I suspected it was just another passing phrase but it's not going anywhere so I guess it's time to address it
Does it not make anyone else at least slightly uncomfortable that we're accepting the metaphor of rape to describe how badly a player lost? Sure I know it happens in nature, when animals show dominance over each other but this is in stark contrast to video games. Yeah, video games played by men and boys (also a small amount of women whose viewpoint you probly didn't bother to consider) who live comfortably enough to have food, clothing, shelter, a computer, an internet connection, and time to play aoc, and I'm not even addressing the privilege that members of first world countries have. The point is that we should be real and put it in perspective. In sporting matches and games you don't set out to rape your opponent, you play in order to outwit your opponent, who should themselves be someone you see as a challenge to yourself, and therefore by beating them you improve your skill.
If you rlly don't care then idc either, but please we need to think about what we're saying on streams. It's not appropriate
