The elo did make some sense, sure it wasnt the most accurate, but you could still say something about a players skill based on it. A 2k+ map specialist is still 1k8+ in almost every other map.All these changes finally allows the aoe-elo system to make some sense, since u cannot choose your opponents (i still remember nili intentionally picking a 1900 opponent to break the 2.3k mark lol), and the map pool is a good guarantie for your elo to show your real strenght.
I personally think this is great news for those who want to use ratings to tournaments qualifiers, since a 2k2 nomad (or arena, bf o whatever) player will never be as strong as an AOE expert (i.e., a good player in all maps).

Also who cares if a player got his/her rating by point trading vs a friend? So what player X is suddenly 300 points higher than he should be based on his skill. That just means you get an easy game if you play him
I still cannot fathom anyone defending this forced map pool decision. Arabia, BF and Nomad are played a lot for a reason, that reason being that people like those maps. Why force those people to play maps they dont like? For me it's definitely a reason to not buy the game.
Hopefully they will ditch the whole system and bring back the freedom that the ranked lobby browser system gave us.They will probably display ELO (from rated games) in non rated games so you can have balanced games.
I assume with rated lobbies, matchmaking queue time would be longer and longer and finally useless soon. They will surely improve current system based on feedback.
@flu so you hate tourney spots being decided by elo and you wanna fix that by changing the elo system instead of trying to fix how tourney spots are decided. Sounds like you wanna cure the symptom and not the disease so to speak.
What you think about adding "casual elo" for lobby browser games as I described above? Wouldn't that be kinda compromise that would satisfy also you tournament guys?I do not hate tournament spots being decided by elo. I hate tournament spots being decided by invitationals. And I hate there being so few tournament spots available that it essentially becomes an invitational. Using Elo to decide tournament spots is fine, as long as the Elo being used is fairly representative of the settings to be played in the tournament. IMO the system of DE is superior to the one we have in voobly as it is far more difficult to manipulate by playing only 1 map, only certain players, etc.
Elo should be a good representation of how skilled someone is at AoE2, and AoE2 isn't just Arena 1v1, just Arabia 1v1, nor just nomad 1v1. And it certainly isn't BF tg lol. They should probably split 1v1 and tg Elo though, as stacking is definitely easier in DE and getting an artificial rating that way.
I do like that idea. But the only thing I would worry about is that some people might start considering the casual elo as the "real elo" since you can play exclusively ara 1v1 on it. I think giving more choice to the players is a good thing, if implemented well. I just definitely don't want to create a situation where too many people are playing on only casual ladders and there is hardly anyone playing on the "official" ladder. What you think about adding "casual elo" for lobby browser games as I described above? I'm not sure but I think you actually have to hold shift to select extra villagers and use control to deselect specific units in a group.pls someone tell me how to fix this
on voobly i can select other vils after already having selected certain vils by using ctrl
on DE it doesnt work?
yes on de default key for that is shift, not ctrl.pls someone tell me how to fix this

In DE the Ctrl key is a modifier for the EZ-drag military selection "feature". Holding control means you select only military units and not villagers. Control is used for this setting regardless of whether or not the checkbox for EZ drag selection is enabled in the options menu (enabling that checkbox just makes the military-only selection apply to all selection boxes that contain both military and villagers, not just when you hold Ctrl). This is bugging me as well, didn't realize how much i used it til it was gone.
For military it works with control as well as shift weirdly enough...
This one messes me up every. single. game....and it's not changeable. I complained about it in beta already
