What's up y'all, it's your favourite angsty teen, back from the dead!
I've made a small amount of posts on here over the years about running, and now I'm making another one. Wild.
In 2017, I did a fair bit of running, but never took it particularly seriously, and so ended up with these PBs:
5k - 19:24 (on a undulating cross-country course)
Half Marathon - 1:39:31 (having run about 7 times in the preceding month)
Pretty crap, eh?
Well. At the moment, I'm recovering / have nearly recovered from a basketballing injury, and I mean to actually take running seriously in 2018. That means 50 mile / 80 kilometre weeks at least, and some hardcore workouts. I've got some pretty tough targets compared to what I've been doing so far. Take a look:
5k (3.1 miles)
I'll have lots of opportunities to attack the 5k over the year, with parkrun a weekly option, but I think I'll usually use parkrun as a short tempo run. My PB is 19:24, so I want to go under 19 pretty sharp-ish, then be threatening the 17:00 mark by the autumn.
5 Miles (8.1km)
A lesser-run distance, but one that I think is particularly nice. I don't have a PB for 5 Miles, but I feel as though I should be comfortably under 30 minutes by the end of the year. There are a few well-organised 5 Milers in my area, luckily, so I should have ample opportunity to get one right.
10k (6.2 miles)
This is the event that everyone does, so there are so many events to choose from. I've yet to run one properly, so I want to get under 40 minutes before winter thaws, then push on towards 37:00 before the end of the year.
10 Miles (16.1km)
There are lots of really nice 10 milers, including one close to me and two in London. Not a nice distance to try and run fast, but I'll do my best! 1:04 or 1:03 should be easily achievable, and with good fortune I'll be knocking on the door of the hour mark...
Half Marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1km)
This is as far as I'll go, in terms of racing. My PB of 1:39:30 is pretty tame, so I'm aiming to go Sub-90 at my local half in April, then hit something like 1:24 at least in Oxford in September.
Here's what my training will look like: (roughly)
Mon. - 8-10km / 5-6 Miles @ Easy recovery pace
Tue. - 10-12km / 6-8 Miles @ Tempo pace
Wed. - 8-11km / 5-7 Miles @ Easy recovery pace
Thu. - High Intensity Workout (between 6km / 4 miles and 16km / 10 miles depending on target race)
Fri. - 7-10km / 4-6 Miles @ Easy recovery pace
Sat. - 10km (5km WU/WD, parkrun @ tempo/race pace)
Sun. - 24km / 15 Miles @ Progressive Pace
Fellow runners, tell me what's going on for you! :D
