Is DM second-rate when compared to RM? Is it even worth while to play DM instead of RM? Does DM measure any form of skill?
all aoc except ara hun war is cs
I read the first sentence, and from that i gathered this. "DM is the best game type possible, ever. Ever."I enjoy watching DM games, even playing it with friends. It also seems that the toxicity that was plaguing DM is gone. I think Rm, DM and CS are all important for AOC. They offer differing and refreshing angles on how to play the game. I'm not going to buy into which is harder and more skillful, since they each excel at some primary part of the game over the other genre.
Just to state some things. I have consistently seen thoughts of DM and CBA being contrasted with one another on likeness. I can see some little similarities myself. You'll find there's many maps in CS where you build units. CBA/Hero, Gwarz/Deathrow, BYO CB, Graves, WoA, Art of War, Herofest, Lustful Encounters and of course Europe map.
There's still a big macro element in many CS maps, denying enemy room to build out, fighting over specific points on the map of importance while requiring a need to defend at home. Some maps are very simple, some are quite complex.
It's always been hugely disappointing to see people with very limited experience at high level CS make uninformed opinions. The foundation of skill in a CSer is not excelling highly at one map, it's being able to play many scenarios at a high level. I'd love to see the top level Rm/Dm guys have a crack against the top level CS guys, it's just a shame these guys don't have any interest or respect for CS.
I guess it would be best if I added some history to fill in here.
In the distant past (like 2004 and before), there was a variety of maps played for DM in the big events (such as Juno Cup series). However, the majority of players who played DM were either American or some places in Europe (such as germany), in large part due to the lag issues that accompanied playing DM when internet speeds were much slower. Well, most Americans and others moved on to other games, and DM declined rather rapidly. And as DM declined, the remaining players stuck to the map that was usually considered the favorite: Arabia/GA. I think the same would occur if RM experienced a similar decline.
However, with the current resurgence of DM activity (if you can call it that), we are implementing more DM maps!
Dm is 80% CS and only like 20% RM the reason are:
Fast speed
High Resources
One map being played always with the same settings, maybe 2 times in a year they use other map
The hotkeys for DM can't be the same for RM
Both CS and DM are about to mass army and just kill, while for RM before you start killing you have to make economy and keep the balance for all the game,
Dm settings are even worst than CS, i mean starting from imperial, not even upgrading a single tech, that just as bad as automated spam units in all cs maps.
Dm should have some more maps and settings to break the habit, it is like 15 years of playing cba, but no one ever complains, thats why dm is dead and only very old player from zone keep playing it or some lost rmers who try to have fun, but eventually they all leave it.

Anyway thnx to confirm another thing, dmers aren't any good in rm because the skill used in DM isn't the same to play RM, the same happend to all CS players, they are really good at microing and macro, the only thing i can see is that you get offended because you have no respect for the CS or any idea of the skills used there.
The fact that CS and Dm players are bad in RM is just another similarity, because it clearly shows which styles are related to each other.
If Dm were second tie in aoc a top of dm could easy be a top in RM, Turbo random in the other hand is more like RM but no one ever plays it.
