I am pretty sure, the original eggs were the large prize pool necessary for an S-tier TG tournament, and the massive admin and scheduling work required to run it smoothly.
A point that has not been mentioned yet (if I read correctly), is the stale TG meta, for example:
And if it only comes down to civ drafts and execution, rather than strategy decisions, it is less interesting, both for players and viewers.
For me, the team draft of the Rage Forrest series is a brilliant idea to keep TG tournaments interesting. However, it heavily hurts the highest quality of play, and therefore probably isn't a possibility for S-tier events.

- Arabia: in 1v1, a lot of unit and strategy choices make sense; in TG, it's cav + archers all the time
- Nomad: in 1v1, you have to make important decisions, e.g., whether to go fc + castle drop or to heavily commit to water; in TG, you just assign players for both tasks
