Before I go into strategy I do not say that my way is the way, it's just a blueprint of understanding that I have not shared and have known to work time and time again. I digress I am not the best player...but I love video games! I have been playing FPS, like Black Ops 2, and many other games RPG's you name it. I am almost always interested. This is a game though that I may never escape because I love it and that's the reason I want to be open about things I discovered when I was 1650 struggling to be 1800, becoming 1800 sparking to 1900 and dropping down to 1750 frustrated.
Anyway the Idea behind this game is Strategy it is the Core of this game. A core that we should all relate to. If you decided to flush I hope it was because of the effects behind performing it; and not because everyone is doing it. That is the core problem with what many call noobs, but I recognize these are players who just lack essential insights. It's insane to do the same thing over and over again and looking for the same results only to fail.
Stratagem Dossier Volume 1:
The Hidden Variable behind Strategies
First lets discuss the variable of strategies. For instance if I were to do 21 pop scouts, how it is executed in the next 10 minutes is the hidden variable.
So here are some of my uniform strategies I practiced in many different ways.
22 pop scouts, 12 minutes gold mining so that I have archers at 14 minutes and I will delay farms sometimes to build ranges before 14 minutes, so whats the variable.. it's the most amazing one for me and that is that executing 22 pop scouts can be done so many ways to achieve something you know is effective within the next 10 minutes.
So here are some examples of the ways I perform 22 pop scouts, I can tweak it so that it is properly executed to be effective and that is what is the hidden variable behind the beauty of strategy games, to alter and tweak things to work in your favor.
22 Pop scouts, 14 min Ranges, Gold or no Gold depending on tendencies and choices of my opponent. To effectively counter does not begin with units but with effective timing and execution.
22 pop scouts, 12 min Ranges, going only 4 scouts ideally and less farms initially to afford ranges. Going into it with idea he is going to fast castle but I can tweak things so that I go quick castle with a light feudal attack.
22 pop scouts, 16 min Ranges, I do this noticing he is not countering my scouts the way he should counter them, he falls for my bait or whatever deception mechanic I am using at that time. He falls for it and there is no need to go early Archers because I know I will have the upper-hand eventually.
21 pop scouts, unorthodox method of going blacksmith first and upping my scouts to keep a strong advantage early on and it is a preventative measure I use to counter things like forwards or to defeat his drush with a bit of security.
22 pop, 8 skirm to archers mix; and adding pikes according to how he responds, I do not need 20 spears if he is not going many scouts..so get out of the practice of doing things repetitively and your main repetition should be in becoming effective.
The variable is that 22 pop can be performed in many different ways after you go up to feudal, those 10 minutes afterwards will shape the types of advantages you will face head on if he is still alive.
Counter strategies upon alerting reconnaissance and intel gathered.
If I can tell he is going to forward. I set my economy to be strong in different ways and I go for certain ways to deny him access. My approach varies and I consider them all effective but not according to map. I can choose to counter with a drush, but if it proves ineffective it can become a struggle of a stalemating type of battles.
Steer away from stalemates. It is never in your favor, even if it is, steer away from it, but there is a way to mirror your oppenent in the confidence you can overtake him because you are much sharper on the battlefield.
