FC conq is a decent option I feel (flank or pocket). When doing it from flank try to do maximum damage to enemy eco and attack multiple players. Conqs can come handy against enemy pocket knights.
There are several options. Popular ones have been mentioned. Please don't underestimate the use of towers for defence.
Problem: You have a map that can't be walled. You make scouts, but can't make archers (which is the standard follow-up) so you're vulnerable to the enemy archers.
Solution: Make towers. They'll keep you safe until you can produce knights.
But really, be creative: I remember a nice game where Spaden went archers as spanish, and sent them to block pocket's gold. He did the damage, after towering up and going castle age he + his pocket was in a nice position overall.
I don't recommend dr -> conq. Not without walls (and come on, who likes to wall?). It's simply to difficult to defend early castle against the x-bows. If you can't get the castle up you're dead. It's a similar situation to dr fc in Maya war - xbows or plumes? The x-bows might make the damage while the castle is being built in cases where the map is open.
Any of those is good for Spain, u just need to read the game and work what is best for your team, there is no perfect approach, I suggest:
- talking lots with your pocket, because if u wall and go Conq, he might have to deal with massa Xbows if he can't wall aswell...
I found man at arms and towers quite viable, also Spanish get good trash and adding skirms isn't a bad shout either. Does delay castle time but just add more farms since you're gonna need more food as Spanish anyway. Also fletching doesn't cost gold so skirms can get +1 range easily and scale mail makes M@A a little more tanky. It's good because most people expect you to go scouts so they make spears which M@A take care off and skirms to counter the Archers to protect M@A though once wheelbarrow is done M@A suck at chasing Villies. Elite skirms and Mangonel can defend vs xbow while you get a castle or stable up ^^
Like Aurelieus said also, making some Archers isn't a bad idea either but it's not also good either.
Also I am a noob and I guess making infantry isn't a wise idea, I don't over commit to it. 3 Spanish vills build a tower as fast as 5 iirc meaning you can have more vills working back at home without being too far behind.
