You might have noticed that some recorded games you watch don`t have that "fog of war", black fog that covers areas you haven`t explored (completely black), or in which you don`t have units/buildings (they are out of your line of sight, transparent gray).
There are three "Reveal Map" options to choose from:
When you play a game, and choose option 1 (Normal), it stays the same when you replay it as a recorded game after that. The problem occurs when you choose option 2 (Explored). This is the biggest problem in Michi recorded games (it used to annoy me very much before I found a solution), because when replaying recorded game, you see everything, like "All visible" was chosen, and not "Explored". You see all the units/buildings of all the players, and it kind a destroy the feeling you have when watching the game with correct fog of war option - then you can see if player could see that cut coming or not, or he just chose wrong tactics to counter it.
This one (as a broken recorded game, see this topic ) can be fixed by hex editing the recorded game file... but this problem has a more simple solution, too
If you have some recorded games in which you would like to fix "Map Reveal" option, follow these steps:
That`s it! Now you can finally watch those Michi games, enjoying them with "Map Reveal" option as it should be... oh, so it looks like that player couldn`t see his opponent coming after all... Too bad for him
There are three "Reveal Map" options to choose from:
- "Normal" - You must explore to reveal the map and find your opponents
(mostly used in every day games, Random Map).
- "Explored" - You can see the map but must explore to find your opponents
(mostly used on Michi, often on Black Forest maps).
- "All visible" - You can see the map and your opponents when you start the game (and while playing).

If you have some recorded games in which you would like to fix "Map Reveal" option, follow these steps:
- Download revealFix utility from here (69 KB, created by biegleux)
- Unpack it somewhere on your disk (eg. "C:\revealfix")
- Go to your AoC SaveGame folder (eg. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\SaveGame"), or wherever your game file is, and select all the files you would like to fix
- Copy those files to revealFix folder (where you unpacked it, eg. "C:\revealfix")
- Run "revealfix.bat" in that same folder (double click it) -- now all the files should be successfully fixed
- Copy (or cut) the files back to your SaveGame folder (eg. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\SaveGame")
That`s it! Now you can finally watch those Michi games, enjoying them with "Map Reveal" option as it should be... oh, so it looks like that player couldn`t see his opponent coming after all... Too bad for him
