I feel like certain people need to learn to appreciate the diversity our community holds, and the ability for us to contribute opinion from differing backgrounds on interesting topics. Two pertinent examples are the closing of the Brexit topic and the closing of the discussion on Islam topic. It irks me that moderation is more interested in doing preventative maintenance and less interested in encouraging diversity in discussion.
I understand that certain people will complain about topics being open, replies not to their liking or the inability to defend their opinion with facts and request closure of interesting topics. There is no requirement to take moderation to extreme politically correct standards. You as the moderator have the role of encouraging healthy and vibrant discussions, and keeping discussions on topic.
If people are upset about a certain topic being created, then let them remain upset (unless it's something unacceptable like promoting rape, crimes, etc.). There is nothing forcing them to open that topic and to read each reply, and then whinge and request the topic to be closed. As long as the topic remains a discussion, it should remain open. It's kind of hypocritical when you allow topics that belittle players like L Clan Chris.
Learn your role, it's not a difficult job you volunteer for.
