Red Bull Wololo: Legacy - Official Announcement

Announcement​

Are you ready for the most outstanding and prodigious event in the history of Age of Empires? We have teased you enough and are now ready to reveal what we have been brewing behind the scenes. Red Bull Wololo started back in early 2020 and pioneered the use of Empire Wars in major tournaments. The fast-paced, action-packed game mode quickly took off, and we had so many incredible moments spanning through the initial Red Bull Wololo all the way to Red Bull Wololo V in late 2021. As time went on, the events only got bigger and better, and here we are, in 2022, and we are about to blow you away.
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Age of Empires, we are announcing not one, not two, but three tournaments. You will get to experience the original game that started the entire franchise back in 1997 - the original Age of Empires. You will also get to experience the arguably most influential game in the franchise's history, Age of Empires II - originally released back in 1999. Finally, the newest edition in the franchise, the incredible Age of Empires IV.

Once again, we will go back to Castle Heidelberg in Germany for the offline event spanning from the 21st to the 30th of October. During these days, you will experience the main event of both Age of Empires II and IV as well as the finals of all three events during the last two days - the 29th and 30th of October.

But what exactly is at stake here? Well, we have a total prize of a whopping $550,000.00 distributed among the three games, as shown below.

• Age of Empires I: $50,000.00
• Age of Empires II: $200,000.00
• Age of Empires IV: $300,000.00

Invitations & Qualification​

Age of Empires II​

For Age of Empires II, you will see the return of all the previous conquerors. Mr_Yo, the champion of the original Red Bull Wololo. Liereyy, the only champion with two victories under his belt, Red Bull Wololo II and IV. DauT, the champion of Red Bull Wololo III. And finally, TheViper, the champion of Red Bull Wololo V. These players have proven themselves to be fierce warriors and have earned a direct invitation to the main event.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in different events leading up to the main event, as well as the two open qualifiers taking place from the 20th to the 21st of August and the 27th to the 28th of August.

Age of Empires IV​

For Age of Empires IV, we're looking back to N4C to find our champions, and with that, Beastyqt, the winner of N4C, and Leenock, the runner-up, will already be waiting to meet everyone else that qualifies in Castle Heidelberg.

Other players must prove themselves worthy in tournaments leading up to the main event, as well as an extensive qualification event, Road to Red Bull held by EGC.

I sincerely hope we can make this one of the greatest events ever. I'm aware of the commotion there has been following the release of Age of Empires IV, but remember that we are celebrating the franchise as a whole and the incredible history our beloved games have. We can't wait to share even more details with you soon.

Liereyy lost to Tatoh 2-0, so at least I don't think TheViper vs. Liereyy would be final, when Liereyy wasn't top 4 in group stage.

 

Okay Nimanoe, I figured it was #1 in group A vs #4 in B and vice versa, but make sense they will draw it since MBL and Jordan is on same points.

Well I believe viewer numbers will speak the truth tomorrow.
I am not gonna make cheesy comments like every player is important, let's be honest since Escape Euro Lan, Liereyy vs. Viper is the most important, most anticipated match of this game. 5 years and both of them are still delivering.

Hera is a great position to reach the final, given Yo and Liereyy both looking a bit shaky feeling like Viper v Hera is likely.... BO3s today in EW is so brutal considering the prize pools etc, looking forward to having BO5 now!

Don't think so. Liereyy is a guy that don't do content (streaming or YouTube), so it's hard to get attached to him. In terms of results also Yo has more S Tiers victories. Biggest possible match is Viper vs Hera

I can agree with that, but talent-wise I would still go for Viper-Liereyy, but you have a very valid point.

 

Viper-Liereyy in quarters make me big sad, because we will have to say goodbye to one of them tomorrow. I hoped they would atleast meet in semis

 

A former invited champion is eliminated in a series that is not streamed on the main channel. I think the tournament deserves better than this.

Especially since daut, according to one caster, arrived to imp in a "good spot". Less than half the army and villagers and gg 20 seconds later.

 

MBL looks perpetually pissed off. So awkward in interviews. Does he dislike Riley or something?

Must have seen diff interview cause I see an Mbl who's still on edge and maybe isn't focussed on giving an interview. Really other thing than being pissed off or disliking somebody.

 

Everything is absolutely amazing about this tournament except it being so rushed/compact because of the organizer trying to fit 2 or 3 full tournaments into the time and space of 1. Group stage just felt very rushed. Bo3s, half of them not even cast on the main channel so its tough to watch everything. Then we have to take nearly a week off. If I remember right RBW5 also had bo3s in the group stage, but everyone played 4 sets instead 2 or maybe 3 in RBWL, and they were all cast on the main channel.

I'm very thankful this tournament exists, any LAN where we get to see live games and casting is special, the prizepool is amazing, and the production continues to deliver beyond anything we could ask for. At least they did give us a group stage, but it is telling it wasn't even in the initial plans. My understanding is AOE4 will have a similar format and a B stream too, so I guess fans of both games have a right to a similar small complaint here. I, like many others here probably, don't care about the AOE4 half; but if something is going to be done this well it would have been nice to see it given proper coverage. As long as it is happening for both games, both games deserved full comprehensive group stages on the main screen. Maybe differently branded tournaments for the different games (are there even wololo monks in AOE4?) It definitely did lessen the viewer experience and excitement somewhat. I just find myself a little bit less hyped now than in RBW5 looking forward to a QF stage after all this, and then a 6 day break before SF and F. That being said by the time we actually do get to the end, I'm sure the quality of production and games will be great as we have seen from this tournament the entire way.

 

Great job so far red bull. I can't believe you made me watch 2 full days of aoe. I feel like a kid again.

Yes I was not on-board with the criticism until now but this is really unfortunate...

However we have been blessed by the AoE gods so far, two great sets to begin the day.

I guess for fairness's sake, as it is much harder to play very late...

This place just craves drama for some reason. Enjoy RB and relax.

 

I understand that days can become very long with even sets, still you should have all quarterfinals in the main channel.

 

I am sorry but this is stupid. As Ornlu said this whole B stream idea added because of AOE4, please separate this 2 ****ing game from now on.

I don't care how much prize money you put or how much quality production you do, you ****ing have to stream all games, this is idiotic moreover disrespectful towards MBL and Hera also.

People can say whatever they want but these two games cannot co-exist. Everything they do for the sake of AOE4 is hurting AOE2. You can keep sucking so-called admins and casters who are pocketing MS money while defending co-existence.
