if it would only show the range of your own, currently selected mangonel, that would actually make sense to have as a feature in the game.
as a mod, it shouldnt be a thing
The range of the towers though is always hidden. Not randomly sometimes because of graphics, but because it's supposed to be up to your judgement.
The similarities are there, though. Main difference is that pretty much everyone agrees on using small trees (because it contributes so much to playability). While there is not the same agreement on the range mod, many people don't want to use it because they feel it should not be in the game.
It's more about how we want to play the game and how to keep it fair, rather than that there's an objective way how the game SHOULD be played.

Here is the mistake, I think. first of all, this "hidden" information is just small pieces of the information in question: the occupation of the map-tiles. you can see almost all tiles on the map and it's crucial for gameplay to see the tiles on the map. that you can't see behind some graphics is rather a side effect than a thing that's in there by intentional design. (That's also why there are the outlines but they just don't show free tiles.)I'll make it a bullet point list so you can comprehend.
the game in HD version -
1. Doesnt want you to view everything that is behind the trees except by using your judgement with the outlines
