Queen's Clash

I am very excited to officially announce Queen's Clash - this is the biggest tournament for female AoE II players that has ever been seen.

We will showcase the talents of the amazing women in the community and celebrate Internationals Women's Day together with an epic battle.

44 players will be competing, but who will take home the crown?

Spoiler: Rules and Settings

Queen's Clash will be played in two groups “Gold League” and “Silver League”.
The 12 highest rated players will be competing in Gold League. Silver League is for up to 32 players. The elo for seeding the tournament will be the highest 1v1 elo of February.
The format is Single Elimination.

Starting rounds: Best of 3
Semi finals: Best of 5
3rd place match: Best of 5
Finals: Best of 7


Rules:

• The first map is always Arabia. The loser of the previous game will then pick the next map.
• Civ Drafting will occur for each set. Following the civ draft, settings are hidden civilisation no repeat from those drafted civs.
• Laming: It is allowed to lame the boar, sheep and deer from your opponent.
  Deleting straggler trees within 10 tiles of the enemy TC is not allowed.
  Walling in your opponent's resources is allowed.
• Nomad-style maps (e.g. African Clearing, Nomad):
  The first buildings constructed must be either a Town Center, Dock, Mill, house or Lumber camp.
  Villager Fights are not allowed before minute 4 (in-game time).
  No Barracks, no Outpost, no Palisade Wall, and no more than one House may be built until your Town Center is up.
  TC fighting is not allowed. If it happens the game must be replayed. Should the Administration decide that a TC fight occurred intentionally, that player may receive an Admin Loss for that game.
  Before minute 4 (in-game time) it is not allowed to block another TC being built by using villagers, intentionally killing enemy villagers, boars, sheep, or deer or steal sheep from your opponents TC.
• Fairplay: Treat your opponent in a respectful way. We do not tolerate insults, racism, flaming or other disrespectful behaviour (determined by Admins).
• Smurfing, account sharing and trying to participate as a male player is not allowed. Any discovery of the aforementioned will result in a player's disqualification.
• Immediately after playing the following things have to be submitted via Discord: Civilization draft, Map draft, score and recorded games. Both players are responsible for making sure the admins receive the required information.
• Admins of the tournament are not allowed to participate.
• It is necessary to actually place in order to receive prize money (the players have to show up and play their first series).
• The rules could be updated or modified anytime (all players will be notified of this).

Every player can pick 2 home maps and ban one home map from their opponent (picking ABBA, ban B ban A).

Restarts:

The game can be restarted within the first 5 minutes, if one of the following points applies:

a) Buggy map creation: At least the following starting resources must be accessible: 5 tiles of the main gold (extra golds are excluded), 4 tiles of stone (extra stones are excluded) and 4 tiles of berries.

b) A player drops within the first 5 minutes

c) Wrong lobby settings

In edge cases the game can be paused to consult an admin, who will decide if a restart is reasonable.

Sign-ups are open from 1st of March 18 GMT until Friday 5th of March 20 GMT.
Your sign-up elo will be your highest 1v1 elo of February.
If you are unranked in February, you have to play at least 10 1v1s before you can sign up for the event.
You will be contacted as soon as your sign up is confirmed (only the top 44 players can participate, others will be put on a waiting list).

We have a process for this in place. First off the majority of the players competing was already active in our community and they have verified this in the past.

We offer players multiple options like short voice chat/video interviews. It is challenging and the process is not 100% safe, but we believe it's as safe as it can be.

Great initiative, congrats for making this happen! $5k for a weekend tourney is incredible and a big step forward for sure.

What strikes me is the prizepool distribution though. Seeing seeds #5 to #12 heavily punished over #13 to to #16 is a bit sad. It's normal that the winner and maybe the finalist of the Silver League would win more than the last players in Gold League but Silver League being almost on the same level prizemoney-wise feels really off.

For anyone who was concerned about the prizepool distribution - please note it has now been adjusted. Thanks everyone for your feedback

IF I would particapte in this tournament just for the money and would be around 5-12th seed, I would try to lower my rating to get into silver league (of course, this is not very sportsmanlike). My point is, it should never be rewarded to be lower seeded.

You can't lower your rating, because the ratings from the past - so before or the day of the announcement - count ...

The seed is also done by the highest elo you've achieved before the tourney was announced, so it's nearly impossible that someone tank their elo without knowing this event even exist ^^

gold league participants just have to show up to get money. To get 350$ in silver league you still have to win it...

I think it's now somewhat balanced. Really, the $75 for the bottom of gold league "showing up" is to compensate for the fact that they can't compete in the silver league, which they would have very good chances of winning (or at least placing very highly). If anything, it's a bit of a raw deal, because there's $300 allocated for 4 players who, if playing in silver league, might win $900 between them (taking places 1-4).

I guess an alternative to this system for two-leagued tournaments is to have no prize for the first drop-outs of the gold league, but automatically transfer them to the silver league, so they still have chance to continue.
