I have seen posts several times of people asking who top 5 players of all time are, or who the top 5 now are, and what makes people think those things. I thought of some of the articles on ESPN.com for the major sports here in america, and Im sure the other sports have this as well that I am just unaware of, and thought: "wouldnt it be interesting to see what one would look like for Aoc?"
I dont think any one person could do this list themselves, but one way I do think it could be cool to see a top 10 or 25 list would be to have like 10 people who are respected in the community, maybe even top players themselves (who is better to rate someone than their peers?) compile a list of who they believe the best players are, and have points assigned for how those players fall in the lists, and total points would determine the overall list. for example: if we have 10 players voting on ten players, the maximum points would be 100, and that person would be #1 in the rankings. so if 1 player got mostly ranked 1, 2, or 3, he would gain points of 10, 9, and 8 from those ranks and those points would be added to their total score and then the top 10 players points could be added and a top 10 could be formed.
one reason I think this would be cool, is because of how active people are, or how current matches affect our perception of that player. if someone stopped playing for several weeks, or lost a ton of 1v1s or audi'ed some TGs, our view of them can change. rust could become a factor and a player they could be even with before may begin to outperform them.
Im not going to begin to make a list yet because I dont think I watch enough games or play against high enough players to be a good judge, but if other people would be willing to do it I think it could be a good idea. other people could mention other ideas they think would work in this too. some more cool thoughts I have about this would be: even if some voters value TGs more than 1v1s, they would still come out to be rather unbaised voters because they would be voting all players in this way. I also think that voting should be public, so that people can see how people voted, and maybe it could be up for some (Reasonable..) discussion as well as not just giving someone a ton of points because they are a friend or whatever. another reason for voting was mentioned by a favorite write of mine, bill simmons, about NBA voting a year or two ago, im paraphrasing, but it went like this: MVP voting should be public, anyone voting for dwight howard over lebron james deserves public ridicule for this nonsense." lebron james was denied a unanimous vote in the nba mvp voting that year by a hometown writer for the magic. the goal of this operation would be transparency, lets see how we all really feel about the players we love to watch!
constructive comments welcome
