Re: RIP Paris ..
Genette, I just wanted to address two of your points.
"Refugee camps are being lit on fire"
Yes, the media says more and more refugee camps are being attacked by "nazis" which is true.. for 24 out of 192 cases. Most of the fires are started by inhabitants. (source: http://bit.ly/1YaMDu3)
"We have a police / judicial system that can deal with crime."
No.. not really (watch this from ~43:30 http://bit.ly/1SEr8i6)
Additionally to that I have already made my own experiences. In the small 2500 people populated city my grandma lives in, a house has been altered to shelter refugees (3 families moved out voluntarily). Since then the burglaries started. For example: bicycles are being stolen and found at refugee camps. In the only local supermarket whole bags of groceries are getting stolen. What does the police say about it? "Meh, let them go"
I have absolutely no problem with people fleeing from a horrible life in a warzone, I would probably do the same. The problem is that those people were educated differently, they come with different values of a functioning society. (Example: http://on.fb.me/1YaNmeF) And this does only work to a certain amount of people.
Now everybody is being called a racist. 30000 people go on the streets because they are scared of what is being brought upon them without asking. What is the easiest solution for their opponents? "You are all nazis"
Why not think about what scares them? Why not even try to find a solution to their problems? The least thing to do is to talk about it.
Nowadays the word "Nazi" is being used so inflationary that it lost its actual meaning of horrible people who did atrocious things. Everyone who is not 100% pro refugees is being equalized with those people, good job.
We are living in a society of being offended by literally everything.
By the way, why don't their brothes in faith (Saudi-Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain) take any refugee? That would simplify the whole situation over Europe now.
scotia_pict: I checked the numbers directly from the Department for Foreign Affairs and indeed by far most of the people trying to find asylum in germany are coming from safe countries but get rejected.
