whats new?Wonder beat me
The purpose here for AOE II: HD was to come and pick up an amazing piece of IP and do something the fans have been asking for years. But we're not bolting on a huge new esports system into the game, we're using Steam for the multiplayer and staying true to form with the rest of the title. The vast majority of the core interest we saw around AOE II was "bring it back". People wanted to re-live the fun from their memories, and there's a lot of expectations to live up to! So focus on a few things and make sure to get them right.
The current competitive environment requires games and systems to be designed from the ground up around said competition. That's something we've seen with the systems for Dota, LoL, etc.
I've been around a lot of the old competitive stuff in the States, and have even competed myself over the years. (though RTS wasn't my strength, I was more racers and PC FPS). MLG, CPL, WSVG, CGS, Quakecon, etc. It's been a few years, but I know the challenges needed to make a game into something that's esports friendly. It's not always easy to see which games will fit into the esports community, or how 'in demand' they are. But the first step is getting the game out there and seeing what the competitive environment is like. Hopefully it does really well and there's a ton of competitive fervor!
I also hope the fact this title is here is a good indication that there's folks here who are really keeping an eye on the community. Obviously doing everything everyone wants is impossible, and sometimes we can't even do things we want to (well...i think a giant turtle ship out front of the office would look cool anyway ) - but I grew up playing this franchise too, the nostalgia is strong, it's important to me too.
Would be great if it had AOFE support.Did they discuss with you about that?
Good luck against Daut.
Let them launch AOE2 the way they're planning, and then hopefully after the successful launch, they might dare to change some more stuff due to big interest.
if u buy it , u can only play with one ID from everywhere where did u setupped. u can change ur nick name if u want u can go smurf :D but ur not visible rating is still same it means if u enter random there will be enough oppeneent for uHey, if i buy it, i can use it in two pcs or only the one from where i bought it?
Make sure to tun into our twitch stream on Tuesday for some gameplay footage. We'll also be chatting about a bunch of the game features.
This isn't an attempt at a competitive match though, I'm usually pretty bad at gaming and talking, so the latter will be taking priority here.
7PM GMT (Noon Pacific...hopefully i'm doing the math right)
We've started a new Developer's Diary series, with Mark Terrano, the Chief Creative Officer at Hidden Path Entertainment.
It's live on the Age of Empires II: HD blog now!
There will be a live stream of Age of Empires II: HD multiplayer on March 19, 2013 at 12pm PDT - you can watch directly on the AOE II page, or catch it on the official twitch.tv/AgeofEmpires channel!
