Hi Biz,
The largest growth on Voobly has been the new player lobby, going from 0 players to over 700 (at times). We likely have more players in NPL lobby possibly than all of AoC HD MP.
We have a lot of focus on making Voobly easier for new players, from the auto 1.0c patch installer, to making it easier to install visual mods such as pussywood.
Interesting...
At the moment we have added a way to disable HW acceleration for those with broken graphics drivers, you hardly need HW acceleration for this game, the option is in the game room->Game->DirectX->Disable HW Acceleration. For these players have they tried this option?
If need be, we'll port the game to DX11 or DX-N. A concern for AoC HD is what to do when DX9 goes away as it's almost as old as the game itself. From graphics video point of view it's legacy and not tested near as well as the modern graphic APIs.
There have been a number of responses that debunk this, see viewtopic.php?f=71&t=95593&start=40#p307453 . Voobly has grown while AoC HD has lost 90% of it's players.
- can new players discover Voobly?

- does the original game even run?
new AMD GPUs wont even be able to run the game. even as we speak you have to download legacy drivers to play aoe2. those drivers don't work on new hardware...

Voobly's player retention numbers are just as bad as HD's, if not worse. Voobly is claiming something like over 1 million accounts... compare that to the actual player count lol
