MoMR had a lot of games starting in Castle Age. That led to a few things: The game was speed up, walling was harder and players had to adapt to new strategies. And many viewers and players loved it. At the same time, we lost all the Dark and Feudal Age strategies though.
Another, much less drastic way of speeding up the start of the game is starting with extra villagers. Players won't be forced to relearn the game, no major changes to any existing strategies - the Dark Age simply becomes a bit shorter.
What would you like to see for a future 1v1 tournament build around aggressive open land maps that encourage active instead of passive play and why? Starting in Castle Age? Starting in Dark Age but with extra villagers? Or no changes at all?
Want to give Castle Age or Extra Villager Starts a try? Want to learn more about the maps that might be played for the tournament?
