I am an avid fan of Age of Empires and its sequels. I am proud to have been with the series through all four parts of its life cycles – inception, prominence, climax and decline. As a former top (5?) player from the United States, I was among or even maybe the last elite player from the States to move on back in 2005, when Microsoft decided to shut down its Internet Gaming Zone. Soon after, team Bsk, the largest American support site for the game disbanded. Who else remembers Steve (founder of BsK) had a real life affair with _Only_Star?
Despite being one of the top American players in 2004-2005, I was mostly overshadowed by the super experts who emerged from the East. Unfortunately the sole survive record of me is the loosely played island team game against the legendary Grunt and the great Ralber. Imagine the only thing the world remembers you is you losing to two of the best players in the world? Damn! Optimistically, at least I have played against the legends and the greats. How many others can claim that?
I decided to give AoC a try on and off over the past week, after a nearly 8 year retirement from the game; and frustratingly attrition has gotten to me. What also has gotten to me was the newly developed strategies compared to the ones more often used back in the golden ages. I would like to share my progress in the game in a public series as I go from 2100 to 1500 to ?
Hope you will all enjoy.
