AOE-II DE New redbull Wololoo coming?

No dude, they definitely hosted the first Red Bull Wololo in April 2020 taking into account the release date of aoe4, which wouldn't even be announced until 14 months later

I know your posts is sarcasm, but I find it a very plausible thought that RedBull went into AoE2 with the goal to set them up nicely for AoE4

Their first 4 RBW events didn't even set them up nicely for their LAN finals given how much of a disaster that was. Major internet issues, a ridiculous 14 player event, using the buchholz score alone to solve tie breaks among 6 players (literally the worst tournament format I've ever seen in my life.)

But you're telling me people who can barely run a tournament had some grand plan to lead into an unreleased game that was predicted to be awful by everyone after the first gameplay trailer... Well I can say, if that was their plan, it wasn't a very good one

Not him but maybe I can give it a shot. You might go for a monk rush very fast if you spot your own gold being very far forward and your enemy base very close to your base. With DWL you have no time to decide the build order of all to food or a few to wood very early. You have to move the 3 to wood or to food instantly before scouting a single thing. Therefore this game mode made a strategic decision into a coin flip. Not the worst thing ever but it's a bit more luck based.

Just a few examples, 21+2 FC with smush involves only 2 villagers on wood until clicking up, and food management is extremely crucial to pull a build order, as well as previously mentioned point of seeing your map. Cuman Feudal TC boom is the only other build I can think off top of my head that is influenced by it. However I've played the showmatch with 9 vil start and I'll say I don't find a problem for it on Arena. (Obviously EW on Arena would be absolutely horrible idea)

Did any of you ever tried such strats on Arena with DWL settings ? Cause i did just now and it kinda works just fine if you adapte the build.

If a map, game mode or strategy goal changes its usually a good idea to just change your old build for a more suitable.

In this case it was 2.0 DWL Start (9 vils, 170 wood, 100 food, 100g, 200s -4 sheep) as Berbers as they have basically no eco bonus for this play (vil speed shouldnt be a deciding factor for anything here)

start with 6 on sheep and 3 + 1 on wood.

rest food only till vil 20-21 they went on gold

scouted enemy first before its time to push deers and then go for 21 vils + 1 + loom, selling 200 stone and 100 wood. If you dont wanna do it just make more vils and seed early farms at this point (around vil 16-18).

Sure you will have more wood cause of the 4 instad of 2 but as you can see just sell it. And the free 6 vils also mean you have to gather 300 food less to make vils and they dont repay themself in just 5 seconds.

Ngl it involves a **** ton of force droping and shifting vils when up to Feudal but that shouldnt be a problem i assume ^^

If playing Arena is really as much about creativity and to adapt as DracKeN always says ... why not try too adapt to the game mode and see how it works first, instead of just saying it wont work ??

It's amazing how good the timing of the RBW series has been. Just a complete coincidence that the series started up, had enough time to run 4 preliminary online events, and then had a major LAN right before AoE4 launched.

it could be 5 preliminary, or 3, or 9, or 15. who knows?

well, set up for a game that no one has the certainty that it will be good?

and now that the game is bad, boring to watch and has less players and viewers than the age2 they will organize a tournament around it?

I never said DWL start doesn't work, I played showmatch games on it on Arena and I liked it a lot, I simply mentioned the two strategies that cannot be done on DWL arena 11

As a side note 21+2 BO implies 20+2vils (what I meant)

They should maybe try tweaking the format a bit in response to some of the feedback they've gotten about it from the previous events but I agree it's very interesting to watch when it's fresh.

All you do is have the start with 50 food or whatever the equivalent of 6 sheep in the mill for 3 minutes game time produces.

Coming from a world where NDA's protect pricing information on billion dollar aircraft purchases and bid strategies it always bemused me the way they were spoken of as if the CIA/FSB had established a joint office to develop AOE2 DE secrets that were critically important. As if what was signed was anything other than some standard NDA form handed out like candy that are as enforceable as a wet noodle is good in a swordfight. Can only imagine the lawyer having fun regarding the imbalance of power between those who spoke of them and those who wrote them, and the verbiage they contained.

Good luck getting content creators to sign up with corporation x that decides to take random talking head to court, settling for some laughable sum that was less than the employment of their law firm.

My guess is they have holes to be driven through them the size of countries.

This is exactly it.
They wouldn’t receive Microsoft support for their tournaments anymore, would likely be barred from streaming Microsoft sponsored tournaments, etc…

An NDA is entirely about enforcement, as its entire point is a legally binding and enforceable document. Otherwise you could say the same without having your corporate lawyer reviewing it, ensuring the persons receiving it were briefed of its coverage, and paying retainer for someone to administrate and act upon them in the event of breach.

To achieve the same outcome you describe you could just say "hey don't tell anyone," without the thousands in overhead and ODC of bothering with an NDA in the first place. Nevermind opening yourself up to poential litigation by having one in place and acting punitively without asserting a breach/violation.
