I'm pretty sure that one of the root of the lack of games in medieval siege is the spectator feature or, in better words, the abuse of it.
It might.Bumping up some players from npl isn't going to cut wait times in half or anything.

I don't think it's about spec mode tbh. I remember that I used to watch tons of records a couple of years ago and it was probably the same for a lot of other people. Now players just watch records live and that's why it seems there are more people not playing that before.I'm pretty sure that one of the root of the lack of games in medieval siege is the spectator feature or, in better words, the abuse of it.
I don't really think it's about not knowing anyone. There may be many factors contributing to this problem, but the main one is probably what Fall said: It's a lot nicer to be on top of the food chain, even if it's just in the NPL. So intermediate players stay in the NPL because that's where they can dominate most players easily.I think the lack of games/players is nothing to do with spec mode, you cant force players to play, if they want to spectate then they should be able to spectate/watch stream. I think we need to find a way to improve NPL/inter players. Maybe some tourneys for NPL/inter players?
Most of the complaints are about how inter/RM players struggle to adapt MS. Thats because they dont have much friends from MS and they just bumped into some random games and get destroyed and demotivated. I think the solution of this problem is nothing to do with the current system/change of system. Solid MS players(16+ and more) should play with NPL players in RM intermediate ladder, teach and motivate them. This way when they transition to MS lobby they would have an idea about whats going on.

I am very skeptic this will work tho, it might be up to the mechanics/algorithms, but puting 10k pool system into a 1k pool system could bring very unexpected results. At chess.com, theres always >10, 000 players online, everyone plays in the same lobby and starts with a rating 1200, BUT the first 5-10 games you play have a huge affect on your rating so you'll quickly jump to your true rating and from then on you'll be matched with equally skilled players. Most new players will drop below 1000 after a few games and from then on they're matched with equally skilled players. this is a great system that I think would work well on voobly, there's no need for seperate lobbies
Whenever I wanna join a TG BF in MS, some guys (untilwefeel, memb, lancelotgolem,... aka all the BF player of MS, rated around 1600-1690) just won't let me play or any 1550-1600 rated player, and are just being rude ("kick the **** noobs 11" dixit memb). No way to improve in MS that way. I mean, I'm not a pro in any way, but I feel I belong more to those game ratings now than in the NPL, and the issue is that BF players in MS won't almost never accept to play with any inter ladder player. And if I manage to play a game, if I make one tiny mistake (10 seconds late to imp, no docking,...) they start yelling "go back to npl", "ffs what a noob", and so on. Not really nice at all, and for that reason I won't ever play TG in MS (except LN since there are more 14xx-16xx LN players overall so it's quite easy to find a game for this map) in the actual situation. Inter ladder players are much more nicer and open minded, overall a better playing experience.
True story about how retarted aoc players can be
Play 1v1 and show them that you are good. easy. One of the reasons why there is a rating for 1v1 and a rating for tg.

You don't get his point. At all.
1v1 and tg are very different anyway, now how on earth could someone improve enough to be "allowed" in such high level expert play that bf 16+ (lol) are?

Btw I like the idea of removing any kind of ladder for NPL lobby.
You wanna play for fun, with friends, that's fine play unrated.
You wanna get a rating and see what's ur level compared to every one? Then you're interested in competition so go play in MS.
(This means increase MS capacity drasticly, apart from having more room is there a negative side to this?)
Idea 1
Eliminate NPL completly and create a new unrated room (GR mode) called Unrated / Begginers & Intermediate. Players who want rating will want to move to MS.
resently i was in a universe between NPL and MS, the games were way to easy in NPL but i was getting destroyed in MS. i had like 45 wins and 5 loses in NPL and the other way arround in MS. the inter lobby wasn't really different from the NPL.
i think the biggest problem is that there isnt a decent overlap between the 2 lobbies.
it really sucks to go from NPL to MS.

This. The NPL should not have a ladder system at all. It should be a place for NEW PLAYERS to go to, or for those who do not enjoy the competitive side of AOC.
