So I was just watching Spirit of the Law's Throwing Axemen vs. Gbeto video and I was reminded of just how underwhelming and often worthless the throwing axemen seem to me. Yes they have a use (in theory) but they just don't seem very viable, especially in terms of high level play where the throwing axemen are almost never used. This is a bummer to me as I feel each civ's UU should hold a place near the top of their available unit options.
Personally I think it would be really cool, and it would make sense, if the Throwing Axemen were replaced with a mounted unit like a Templar Knight or something like that. But maybe considering the strong Paladins they already have that doesn't make sense and feels duplicate.
What do you think? Are throwing axemen pretty worthless? Or do you find them useful and viable? What about the Templar Knight? Or some other different new UU or changes to Throwing Axemen to make them more viable?
