I've been doing quite some research on looking for new standard maps to be built into the new expansion. But after Biz' inspirational topic on new random map scripts, I noticed once more how I could use all of your help 8-)
The plans for random map selection on AoFE:
- Add new selection procedures: Random Water Map, Random Rush Map, Random Closed Map,....
- Add popular custom maps to the standard selection pool. E.g Land Nomad. To make an end to the various versions floating around.
- Fix some of the current Random Map scripts, such as Salt Marsh and Rivers to make them more attractive for competitive games.
- Add completely new, challenging and interesting RMS scripts.
This topic will focus on the 2nd and the last point. What maps would you like to see added as standard maps to the new expansion for AoE2?
New Maps:
Cenotes
Open rushing map (Arabia style) with a standard set of resources. Small lakes are scattered around all over the map and provide little fish.
Semi-closed water map. Grushing can prove fatal on the wrong lake, and fishing on the right one can mean a great boost for your economy. Rather easy to wall, but transports are possible from all sides.
Highland for the big boys. A big lake separating both teams/players with plenty of fish.
Players start in their little hideout camp in the forest. You'll have to break free to conquer your foes.
A spiced up version of Double Arabia.
Shorefishing extreme. I don't even know how to describe this map.
Semi-open map. A dried up river runs through the middle, with herds of deer trying to drink from the last puddles that run along the sandy shore. If you want to hunt, you'll have to go there.

Nomad style map with extra natural resources. Players start without a Town Center on a land only map.
Land Nomad style map, experiment to make nomad games more interesting and fast paced. Players start out with a few yurts and 3 extra villagers.
