NAC3 vs N4C in numbers

To be fair. Nilis decision to turn NAC4 into "N4C" cost every single one of Nilis GL teammates around 5 - 10k dollars in price pool (maybe even more). As well as great event with their friends and loved ones. Daut, Tatoh, Viper and Jordan could all play in NAC4, make money and have fun. Nili took that away from them to support a failing game. So I am not surprised they are pissed and play best of 21s instead of streaming his tourney.

It makes sense that an event hosted by a GL member in the GL house would be streamed by other members of GL. I would be pretty upset if my teammates didn't support my event

I just saw Jordan will be streaming N4C in German this weekend, so Nili is probably getting a little desesperate for viewer numbers. I kinda feel bad for the guy

waited so long for an sick bavarian aoe stream and then it was AoE 4 :sadface. Jordan made me watch it for 5 minutes hugh success. Still can't understand why people enjoy watching stronghold 2 in AoE dress.
I hope he will make AoE 2 bavarian content.

Aoe4 fans wanna pretend like aoe2 fans who complain about aoe4 are a bunch of grumpy middle aged or boomer dudes who don't want change. Typical deflection to excuse for a mediocre game. Fact is, vast majority of aoe2 fans and players fall between 16-30, and most of us try out new games frequently.

I for one was very much hyped when the aoe4 trailer came out, and was looking forward to the actual game.
Installed the game immediately when it came out as a demo for free, in MS store. The slope from hype to disappointment was very steep lol.
Still gave it a shot, thought some patches would fix stuff. Stayed till Genesis was over, and the game simply didn't click.

Honestly, I enjoy even AOE3 a lot more than AOE4.
At least in AOE3, the campaigns are fun (IMO)

At this point, I don't play much either. Haven't been in ladder for maybe an year or more.
Now I just play campaigns or something else with IRL friends on a Saturday, that's about it.

Right now, I watch far more than I play as well.
And yes, aoe4 is boring to watch as well, not just play. I seriously gave it a try during genesis, and even Viper games couldn't keep me interested.
Homing missiles, no friendly (+broken) fire siege, typical style of one fight and gg, etc.......not for me

I didn't thought about this, but then it is not only teammates, AM team, Liereyy, Hera, MBL, Nicov, Yo, Villese could also join NAC even Vinch but it might be a bit problematic for him.

I think that's a function of Nili's class as a tournament host, he can make an incredibly engaging event which can hit 6 or even 7K average viewers in a relatively low quality game like AOE4, which is an achievement.

But if I were the host of that $125K online league, alarm bells would be going off in my head right now, that such an incredible LAN event just about scraped 7K viewers in the semifinals.

Unfortunately, no matter how good you are as a tournament host or streamer, the game you've got to work with is still a limiting factor, and the fact that AOE4 is a mediocre quality competitive game means that no event will have the reach it could have achieved in a better game.

And being fair, peak was ~ 10K+ for aoe4 combined. 7K was for Nili's channel alone

Still yeah, the numbers are pretty abysmal so far.
I wonder how long will Microsoft keep pushing this and starving AOE2 pro scene. The astroturf can only do so much.

KOTD semis were getting 20K+ combined IIRC, and finals got close to 40K combined.
And this was immediately after T90 moved to FB, after AOE4 just got released and was in it's hype phase etc.

It is the following set of elements:

-camera angle​

-washed out aesthetic​

-inconsistent scale​

-random cartoonishness​

-oddly sparse unit models​

-clunky unit animations​

I think the highly restricted max zoom level does not help either as it really forces some of these issues into your face rather than letting you gloss them over looking at things with a more detached perspective.

How is it saturated?

For the past 3 years, since DE came out, the viewership and the pro scene was continuously expanding until aoe4 came out.
It seems "saturated" now only because AOE2 pro scene is starved by MS.

Unless you mean, people buying the game.
In that sense, aoe4 is saturated as well. The player base is constantly declining, which means not many new players are buying the game even accounting for people who stop playing all together.

Right now AOE4 has 14K+ combined viewership. Honestly quite a bit more than I expected.

But yeah, I initially (when tournament started) thought finals would get 20-25K viewers, but considering the numbers in past few days and semis/quarters, I thought it would be 12K+ at best.
