I would love to see a hybrid of Civilization and AOE.
Basically, there would be no civ choice, but everyone would start in Stone Age, with a flowing huge tech tree like Civ. You wouldn't research the next age like in AOE, but if you researched 3-4 techs in the current age you would automatically advance to the next age. So you would work the tech tree towards the strat you wanted to execute. You could go towards economic techs or military techs that supported the type of strat you wanted to employ based on the map and other factors. So it would be like picking your own civ bonuses based on the situation/map. Obviously if you went heavily towards one set of techs you would be far behind in other techs that weren't relevant to your strategy.
So like in Stone Age you would have techs like Fire, the Wheel, Fishing Boats, Hunting, or whatever. In 2nd Age you might have techs like Writing, Farming, Archery, Husbandry, etc. These techs would be unlocked from researching previous techs.
Don't know if I explained that well 11. But it would be like create your own civ bonuses/strategies dependent on situation.
