system
screen
its old monitor, maybe has happened to someone before, please help its frustrating to lose a game when im winning just because of this
I can see that you have XP, so it shouldn`t be operative system related problem - the freezing of the screen you described happens on Vista and W7 due to some incompatibilities with DirectDraw.
For a start, as you said, you may try to update drivers for your graphics card / monitor, and you may even try reinstalling DirectX (download here). Also check if monitor cable is tight connected - I don`t believe it has anything to do with it, but just to be sure.
updated most drivers, and dx, as i said, sometimes i cant even watch a rec and some days i can play all day so ill tell u if it worked in the next few days
Not to me Well, I don`t know what`s the cause to all of this, but you may try some "usual" fixes - reinstalling AoC completely (saving everything you need, then uninstalling, deleting game dir, clean install), scanning computer for any malware (try this), maybe even defragmenting your hard disc.
Might be many things - overheating, motherboard, processor, even buggy RAM memory... The hardest thing is to locate the source of the problem. If you could spot any pattern, it would be easier to think of solutions. Those occasional errors are a nightmare :/
For a start, try that complete reinstall (you may even try to install from some other game CD, not the one you used last - just don`t forget to copy everything important before deleting the folder) and malware scan.
"NOSC-Turns off detection of the Microsoft Strategic Commander controller." What is that commander/controller? And is that in some connection with strategy in AOC? And what that "detection" works? Sorry, but I am completely lost in these terms. But sounds like something which can be useful, on first view.
