Based on edie's past performance and his performance in this tournament. He won't make it far in LB. Simpley because you're well known on the map does not mean you're good in the map. I'd be surprised if he wins first game in LB. The other players are simply well rounded and can adapt much better. The "well known" arena players unfortunately just do not stack vs real experts.

In your opinion, what is it that the likes of Edie and Terror lack in terms of skills, that Lojza, Viper, slam etc have. Why doesn't Edie just clean up in this tournament?
Lojza's 1v1 play is mostly on arena, but then unlike Edie and Terror he plays loads of team games like Clan Masters and Nomadness. I also notice that the majority of the games that slam plays outside of tournaments are team games with random folk. Then we have Nick, a guy with no rating in 1v1, but he's quietly powering through the losers bracket in MOA3. Team Gamers certainly seem to use a wider range of civs and play a wider range of maps.
1v1 is dominated by Huns on Arabia if you're a non-arena player. Using slam's Voobly profile as an example 100 of his last 160 games were Huns, and 119 of the last 160 games were on Arabia. The same is true for MbL, Viper, RiuT and BacT as a random sample. Aztecs and Mayans are not even close.
But if you look at the Map and Civ statistics and for team games, suddenly the diversity skyrockets.
Is the best way to become well rounded to play lots of team games?
There are too many things to name that separates a player like edie from lojza and other experts. I'll name a few big ones though. One being speed. He has way too many idles in every game I've seen. Two. He does a lot of super aggressive plays that work really well vs lower skilled players because they let you get position on them. These super aggressive plays don't work vs real experts simply because they will not let you get position on them like a lower skilled player would do. He goes for the super aggressive plays because he does not posses great speed (which is smart because that is what you should do) but that is why he has a lot of idles. He is always focusing on the army and not managing his town. The experts do both with ease. Also his knowledge of lategame is very weak as everyone seen in the tournament. He is use to winning fast with super aggressive 1 - 2 tc plays and never really had to play out lategame. We seen a good example of this when he lost to st4rk in the mayan war .

After a reading your response and a number of other threads on skill levels, I'm reaching the conclusion that the difference between good and great players can be summed up in one word: MACRO. Ultimately macro is what gives you an economy and economy is what wins you games that aren't 1 TC rushes.
00:02:58 Lojza_: you should restard imo
00:03:04 TheViper: why
00:03:40 Lojza_: look at your golds
00:03:50 TheViper: np
00:03:57 TheViper: restart vs u is waste of time
Goddamn, I'm glad y'all set it off
Used to be hard, now you're just wet and soft
First you was down with the AK
And now I see you on a video with Michel'le
Looking like straight Bozos
I saw it coming, that's why I went solo
And kept on stomping
While y'all mothafuckers moved straight outta Compton
Living with the Whites, one big house
And not another nigga in sight
I started off with too much cargo
Dropped four niggas now I'm making all the dough
viper did not give his best, and certainly he could have taken more games. It is ez to see that he did not take it very seriously, after all he never bothered to call a re even when should have,

It's true. Your macro only gets you so far though. You still need solid decision making. That's why I said there are too many to list so I said Macro+Strategy (the biggest ones). Some will say that is the difference between 2k and 2.4k. Strategy, Units, Positioning, Pushing, Defending etc. It's the reason a 1.7k can beat a 2k on arena and a 2k can beat a 2.4k. Arena is such a strategic map which is why it's really fun to watch. You get to see the genius of the player or lack thereof. People get frustrated with arena because it requires creativity. You simply cannot follow a set meta and win like almost every other map in AoC. Arena does not have a meta. Which is why it's so great to watch.
