Basically my problem occurs randomly during game play, which is also where it is most apparent. Say when I am "viewing" or "scrolling" around the map, or any kind of subtle movement is performed, it can result in strange stutters. For the lack of a better term, it appears to be a split second lock-up of the screen or a hitch in the rendering of the frame while scrolling around the map. I wonder why?
Here are a couple of things I have tried to no avail....
- I have used various drivers for my GPU and mouse that made no difference whatsoever.
- Tried AoC without GPU drivers, where the view would somewhat skip in huge tiles so to say
- The compatibility mode can sometimes make things even slightly worse under different OS selections.
- I have as well tried running FRAPS offline and online; the difference is night and day. Offline I am getting around 800-900+ fps, sometimes even 4 figures???? Online the fps fluctuate from around 30-50.
- Setting different CPU affinities is negligible, while CPU priority if set to low can only minimally reduce the occasional stutters.
- Unlocking CPU cores does not change a thing.
Also to put some things in perspective, on an older PC of mine I remember being able to select the highest in game speed by which it would still remain semi-playable, whereas on this new PC that I built the screen would literally fly across the map under a second e.g. from left corner of the map to the right corner.
Other than AoC I do not play any other games, but I have noticed when using the scroll bar on Voobly or while surfing the net that it has micro-stuttering too lol? I had dismissed this problem as a mouse driver incompatibility for far too long, but the more I think about it, the more I am leaning to another hardware related issue. Is it a bottleneck stemming from CPU, GPU, HD etc.?
Suggestions? Buga, Boki or any other PC Gurus, your input is appreciated!
