Mad Random Cup 2 Map Guide

The map pack can be found in the mod center under the name ‘Mad Random Cup 2 Map Pack’. The maps have a MRC2- prefix.
The map pool consists of 15 maps from the Mad Random map pack. Close to 100 different maps from this map pack have already appeared in high-level tournaments since 2014, the most well-known include Atoll, Chaos Pit, Cross, Huacachina, Loch Ness, Pond Arena and Sahara.
Here we are using 15 maps of which 13 have not been used in high-level tournaments (*according to Liquipedia documentation) yet.
- Ascentring - First tournament appearance
Players start on a high plateau with sparse wood. The wood in the surrounding lowlands is very dense, which incidentally makes booming harder. It may be beneficial to forgo economy investment and maintain aggression on the high ground.
- Coastarena - First tournament appearance
Imagine Arena, but with water all around the map’s edge. Open space towards your opponents and relics in the center, forests on both sides of your base, but an opportunity for fish booms and landings from the back.
- Combat Ring - First tournament appearance
Players start inside a ring of trees. The walls of trees will be chopped through eventually and open up the map for more options with more space and resources.
- Double Arena - First tournament appearance
This version of Arena has two town centers in a double layer wall with double starting objects and a monument which provides a trickle of resources (0.79 food and wood/s, 0.53 gold/s, 0.26 stone/s).
- Drumlin - First tournament appearance
Players start in a fort on a hill. They have few resources there and will need to expand outward. The outside of the map has the extra wood with shore fish in a stream. The middle of the map has berries, which can help players maintain control during aggressive plays.
- Entrenched - First tournament appearance
Trenches of unbuildable rock run through player bases. Despite the forest being relatively dense, players will be unable to fully wall.
- Evaporation - First tournament appearance
A close-quarters map where most of the wood is on the border, separated by rocks. Pools of water in between players can provide some fishing opportunities, but the investment may be costly due to how hard it is to be safe on land.
- Flooded Cross - Appeared in Mad Random Cup (2v2), NAC 2 (1v1), and as Double Flooded Cross in Double Cup 2 and 3
There is water in all four corners on the map, and these corners are all interconnected by narrow shallow rivers, so ships can pass from one lake to another.
- Haven - First tournament appearance
Each player has a harbor where they can fish. Attacking an enemy harbor in the early game can be difficult since they are well defended by stone walls and a fortified tower. Eventually though, control of the lake and harbors will provide an advantage that cannot be ignored.
