Hey!
Let me start this off by telling you what's happening before I move on to explaining why it is happening:
- there will be a second round of signups, held in the same signups thread starting from now, ending on June 6th, Sunday, 23:59 GMT
- 16 best ranked players (seeding rules remain the same) will take the 16 remaining spots and play from the round 2 onwards. They will be treated as Late Entries, more on that below
Now onto why I made that decision:
T90 reached out to me that... he forgot to sign up. I wasn't really planning on allowing any late entries but the Dutch Variation of the Swiss System has a supported way of doing so (link HERE if you are interested). I don't know how well chess tournament formats translate to aoe2 but I'm willing to give this a shot. Before you accuse me of being biased - yes, I'm biased. If it makes you feel any better, I'd seriously consider this if players like Max or Hearttt reached out for example. Having T90 in the tournament would be massive, having another 2k+ player would also be massive for the quality of games, for tournament's reach and so on. There is no way I can't possibly be unbiased about this. I assesed the risks and benefits and decided for making a way to accommodate that. Time will tell if the decision was right or wrong.
How does this impact the competitive integrity? Not in a good way that's for sure. If you think hard enough you'll eventually come up with a scenario that ruins everything and leaves everyone with a bad taste in their mouths. I'll be taking the following steps to ensure that scenario is as unlikely to happen as possible:
- Late Entries will get 0 points for round 1 and that will be treated as an Admin Loss - which means they won't have any leeway when it comes to further Admin Losses - one more means disqualification (see §1 - Respecting Deadlines in the Scheduling and reporting scores section)
- Late Entries will be seeded with all other players and everyone's seed will be adjusted, however for the purpose of tiebreak #4, players who signed up as Late Entries can never win a tie by seed with players who signed up in the regular timeframe
- In the rare event that a player signing up as the Late Entry has reached their highest RM 1v1 ELO during this week, they will be seeded by their highest ELO achieved before Sunday, May 30th, 23:59 GMT
I'm prepared to read all of the backlash that's about to come, as well as genuinely intersted in your take on how this can affect the competitive integrity of VC4 but the decision is final.
Rules will be added tomorrow. Note that none of the players who signed up in the regular timeframe is affected by the change of rules.
