I would say: neither of them was in top form. Game 3 map was SO BETTER for Hearttt, yet he managed to throw away the game. Just like Daut G5 vs Franks. Mixed feelings. Congrats Hearttt anyway!

Everytime i get malays i struggle with the eco management, once i finally get the eco running i find out that they lack of strong units and army composition specially on imperial.

Karambit power is very situational, there is a high chance you lose between feudal and castle age with that civ, having said that i blame that civ for kicking out our King :|

And why does that matter?

You're probably very critical of people who are better than you at what they do. And rightfully so.

In funito's aoe timeline daut was a mysterious player that literally had no contact with anyone in aoc other that his serbian friends and his rival chris, the only thing you could guess about daut was reading his gameplay and few interviews.

But now thanks to the stream we all know that daut loses because of his laziness and taking rushed decisions to avoid intense micro fights or extend the game, he doesn't wall often and when he does "there is always a hole" and that is maybe his only mistake cause he has lost speed with the years with his current macro and experience he should control the map better.

Heartt is a young player with 100% motivation meanwhile daut probably was thinking that he would lose to lierey or to viper, but in skills there is still a big difference, playing WK is fun but too many OP units or bonus reduce the competitiveness and increases the chances of lucky wins by civ, prove of this is the high amount of players achieving their higher ratings with the mod above +100/200 pts to their previous elos.

The only top player trying to explode the best of each civ is Tatoh due his large experience with the expansions, the others are just trying to figure it out how to play the safest way possible, we have lots of experts but few strategy developers, its been 2 years since african kingdoms and there is not a single meta defined or abused for each new civ for 1x1.

Funito please **** off. You are not even 1900 nowdays and you keep talking shit on daut that is 100 times better than you.

i just saw this "funito thing" on memb's youtube in match Lierrey vs ACCM, where he was spamming his vision 3-0 heaart result, this guy is patient really, he was shitting agains Daut in some rated games too, he is just annoying for me too. I am glad that i am not only one who noticed it.

I think too many people (can't say for sure) take into account that you up faster and should make more villagers so they have equivalent uptime to non-malay player, but don't take into account that they spend food so much faster on vils.

I think even 25 pop is a little bit on fast side especially if you're making archers from 2 ranges, then again 27 up is too greedy perhaps. But once you got eco going it's really a massive bonus in my opinion.

IMO malay are still among top civilizations (probably after indians, malians, mayans, incas, berbers, burmese and aztecs), the UU is super underrated (I read many times in twitch chat how karambits are shit), in reality there are few units that counter them efficiently.

That's why they lose all the time.
you can't use statistics of 1 tournament to draw conclusions, the number of games played is way too small, especially considering it's only the first arabia 1v1 tournament on these settings, WK is only available for 3 months, and there is a big skill difference between players. Even mid-tournament we can see big changes in civ picks/bans, and that might very well change in couple months.

It's still better to draw conclusions from actual pro player game data than from subjective opinions. There are already a few dozen games to analyze from KotD and they don't suggest that Malay are anywhere near the top civs' level. But you're right that it might change as the meta advances.
