Or: "Is Larry washed-up?"I propose we start a new thread instead: "After 20 years in the top 10, is DauT's dynasty only now at its peak?"
Hey I'm kinda new...Could you tell what's the most prestigious tournament in aoe? Only today I saw RedBull tournament from semi finalsIf you look at the big 1v1 RM tournaments in 2020 (im counting NAC3, HC3, kotd3, TCL 2020, Bonjwa Fight Night and Arabia Invitational) Viper won 4/6. He is also the best DM player in the world. Not that RBW isnt entertaining but with the lack of preparation from many players, the many upsets, the undeveloped meta and the little care that empire wars gets when there isnt a tournament I dont see how that would be a big indicator on who is the best RM player in the world

3 out of the 4 tournaments Viper won were in the first three months of the year. I'd say that they give less indication over who is currently the best RM player than RBW1, 2 and 3 as so much can change in just a small amount of time.If you look at the big 1v1 RM tournaments in 2020 (im counting NAC3, HC3, kotd3, TCL 2020, Bonjwa Fight Night and Arabia Invitational) Viper won 4/6. DauT of courseFor someone who is new to Aoe like me, Could anyone tell who currently is the best player?
Lords of the West releasing on 26th Jan.
I get the feeling that Viper is just a little burned out. Streaming 5 days a week for a living and playing so many tournaments for so long will do that. He should take a vacation.
If your life depended on it, everyone here would pick Viper. He's still the best.
He's not streaming as much as other players (Hera/MbL). But yeah, I get the same feeling. Namely that he is putting himself under a lot of stress, pressure in tournaments, and when one thing goes wrong, he gets tunnel vision and his performance quickly goes downhill. I think that being the best was a huge part of his identity, and recently that has been challenged. He wants to win too much, he cares too much about the outcome and that is affecting him.I get the feeling that Viper is just a little burned out. Hera is young and hasn't been at the top nearly as long. MBL is a machine, but doesn't he live at home still? TheViper's livelihood depends on the game. Being at the top for so many years, plus playing for a living means a lot more pressure. He used to take month long breaks and he's talked a lot about getting burned out in the past. Now, he doesn't really have the luxury to take long breaks. Plus, MBL has never been the best, so the hunger is probably greater. He's not streaming as much as other players (Hera/MbL). That being said, the very best aoe2 performance I've ever seen, was the Champions League Tournament hosted by Hera. The Viper was 4-0 up against Liereyy in the final in an absolutely dominating performance, absolutely perfect gameplay, he was clearly in the zone, completely focused. A freaking symphony of a performance. So clearly, the raw ability is there, the mastery of the game. So my thinking is that the stakes were not that high in that case, it was more of a friendly showmatch than a huge tournament, so he did not put that much pressure on himself. Of course it's a completely mental problem. There are solutions as well.
Not when the stream gets as big as his. Who needs to win when you've got 2000 twitch subs?TheViper's livelihood depends on the game.
How long do you have 2000 Twitch subs when you start falling off?Not when the stream gets as big as his. Who needs to win when you've got 2000 twitch subs?
