Well the main difference is that the set was a close 3-2 that could easily have gone either way. Honestly Liereyy and Hera are insanely close in level and, while Liereyy took the last two, they almost always go the distance (including their BO21!). If anything, a convincing win for either of them would have been surprising, but a hard-fought exciting set is what we were expecting from it, if Hera was favorite he might have been a 51/49 one.I think it is really interesting that nobody talks about Hera dropping out in the quarterfinals as well.

Wtf you're only listing his losses, I'll add to this list (starting at RBW1 against Hera/Liereyy/Yo):4-0'd by YO - RB1
7-0'd by YO - t90 showmatch. $100 per game
4-0'd by Hera - Arabia Invitational
3-1'd by Liereyy - RB2
3-0'd by Yo - KOTD3
That's winning just 1 game.....out of 22.
I personally think he made similar mistakes as in RBW2, simply producing really few army compared to Mr. Yo. He was constantly behind 10-30 through all games. Adding to that as Yo explained he new exactly what was coming at him in every game, so overall Yo was simply better and usually had strong performances against him recently.
Not as dominant as the last 8 years, but most likely remains #1 in year 2020. I mean, he still won 3 of the 6 $10k+ 1v1 tournament. Yes, STILL, imagine someone wins 50% of the major tournaments in any sports.
EDIT: Guess who is who?

Interesting take, though Viper in his early years was actually known for his very aggressive playstyle. He became more of a defensive player later on, after his opponents started playing YOLO against him all the time (on the basis that the more randomness they could create against a stronger player, the better their chances would be). Which, ironically, turned Viper into an even better player: play meta against him and he beats you with better mechanics, play YOLO and he beats you with perfect defence and game sense.I don't think it's rocket science what's happened - the game has gotten more aggressive, due to changes in map gen, new civs, and a shift of the meta. Viper's run of long dominance sprung from his defensive, parrying play style - always making the other player make the first move, then expertly countering it and grinding them into a pulp through a combination of superior macro and micro. The game is more aggressive now, there's tons of players with great micro, and I'm sure Viper will adapt his play style very soon. He's still probably the best player in the world, it's just not a slam dunk steam roll every time he's in a tournament.
Most of what I'm seeing is that Hera, Liereyy, and Yo should've participated more in the AOElympics to pad their resumes... I mean, the stiffest competition across all of TheViper's four AOElympics sets were LaaaaN, ACCM, Miguel, and Vinchester (and not all of them in every set!). Also, RBGW was literally six players, where ACCM was the second best player. Everyone else's list has mostly very competitive tournaments featuring mostly top 16 players and usually most/all of the top 8.
Actually, if you take out AOElympics and RBGW (for the above reasons), TheViper's record has a definite declining trend in the back half:
Second for RBW1
Second for CC3
Second for Arabia Invitational
Third/Fourth for RBW2
Quarterfinals for KOTD3
That's... not a wonderful trend.
Thats a bit disrespectful to AOElympics but ok.who cares about aoe olympics? did anyone even follow that tournament? hope there will be a real nations cup again

I was referring to DMWC3, but its missing in the screenshot as its somehow not listed on aoe-elo.com.KotD3, NAC3, HC3, RBW1,RBW2 which is the 6th major you are talking if not DMWC3
its like watching messi or ronaldo score only 10 goals in a season...Jeeez this community is obsessed with Viper!
