It really bothers that despite not purchasing Lords of the West, the Burgundians still appear in the original AoK campaigns as opponents where Burgundy was a faction formerly represented by Franks. I liked it when Burgundy was represented by the Franks: this reinforced to me the original design principle of the game, that generally "civs" represented groups of "peoples" which ultimately developed into recognizable modern polities. Under this framework, despite their ownership (and reliance on) the Low Countries, the Dukes of Burgundy are very clearly a Frankish faction rather than a separate entity. That the Burgundian "unique" unit has extensive references to it in the historical record of the Kingdom of France reinforces to me the lack of meaningful distinction between these two at the broad cultural level.
Is there a way to fix this? I would hate to think FE actually made a change like this while providing no way of opting out. They do not have an adequate understanding of the source material they are working with - that much is clear - but even if they did, thinking their take is so correct it should be forced on the player over that of the original creator would be a truly disgusting level of arrogance. It would show such a stark lack of respect for both the consumer and the designers and artists at Ensemble Studios (whose work they have leaned so heavily on in their marketing for DE) I am not sure how anyone could defend it. Please tell me there is something obvious I am missing.
As a side note, it is questionable to anyone that the new campaigns are included in a separate tab entitled "W. Europe" despite several "Europe" campaigns taking place in similar parts of the continent? To me such inconsistency can be explained only by laziness or not taking the time to think things through and therefore really cements the feeling the DLC was a low effort cash grab rather than carefully crafted enhancement to the base game.
