May have missed it but I didn't see an intro thread, so I guess I just created one
Name is Scholar, from Vancouver, have played AOC since 2000, but stopped playing around the time the zone died. Last year a couple of my teenage sons said "hey dad, why don't we play one of your custom maps (made around 110 giant custom multiplayer maps) you have on disc." So not having played AOC for 5 years I said, "lets do it." Unfortunately with all our new rigs running windows 7 we quickly found out that the colors were all messed so we tried for a couple of minutes but gave up shortly after concluding that the new OS wouldn't run it properly, so we figured we were screwed.
The good news: STEAMS announcement...one of my sons said that he saw an article that implies that steam has some AOC stuff being tested....I thought....No WAY
1) Was jacked when then the news was confirmed a week later and soon 7 friends and family were pre ordering on steam...I was pumped, I saw a whole new life given to my all time favorite game....all time!!!...then something happened...
2)Then I stumbled across a few groans from some members of an active AOC community called Voobly in the steam forums that were having concerns over the release..I was caught off guard, I thought that AOC was pretty much dead after the zone shut down...my ignorance....but now I tried to understand why some were a little bitter about the new release when I was feeling really excited about the news...after reading for hours I can now somewhat sympathize, but not enough to worry about it...
3)Then I stumbled upon AOCZONE and have been coming here everyday to read and catch up on stuff'''
4)Then I stumbled across AOFE...and was even furthur perplexed.....with AOFE and AOCZONE the community was vibrant and busy and I had had no idea about any of this....
I write this because I can guarantee you that there are thousands of past players like me who are in the same boat, overly excited about the steam announcement, which has initialized a new beginning for new and old players of AOC
....a I'm excited to be back playing this game, I know I sound like a noob, but this game was special and remains so to me and I can hardly wait to start making giant regicide multiplayer maps again. Also after watching Viper play as well as others on recorded games, I am even thinking of playing online against others, other than family and friends on those custom maps, so there's my intro and my take.....peace...4 more days baby!!!!
