As promised in the last interview, Adolfmv is here yet again with another installment of his series, this time with the Canadian legend Chris, also known as L_Clan_Chris or _OrCuS_. The name Chris has lately been popping up all over AoCZone for many reasons. Some of these are the eagerly anticipated match between him and his Serbian rival _DauT_, or the fact that Chris is most likely going to participate as a key player in the WCL 7 Dream Team Match.
Let us therefore delay no longer with introductions and [READMORELINKDOTS] see instead what Chris has to say:
Adolfmv: Greetings, First of all I want to thank you for allowing me to interview you.
Chris: You're Welcome
Adolfmv: So Chris, Can you tell us a bit about yourself in real life? What do you do in your free time apart from playing AOC
Chris: I eat watermelon 11. Seriously though, I'm a chemical engineer withow a job at the moment. I like to play soccer and hang out with my friends, and party a bit and one big side hobby that I love learning about investing.
(Spoiler: Chris eating watermelon :D)
Adolfmv: Nice, That would explain how you understand this game so good, Have you got any girl?
Chris: As you know a gentleman never kisses and tells, so anything that happens between me and ladies is strictly confidential.
Adolfmv: haha, definitely. Tell me how old were you when you played first time in AoE? And how did you find it?
Chris: I've enjoyed real time strategy most of my life because of its powerful combination of planning, reacting, learning, and executing with a strong sense of control and teamwork. First time with an RTS? I was probably 7 or 8 with warcraft 2, and i've been playing AoK/AoC on and off since the year 2000.
Adolfmv: You sayd you like investing, Did that help to you to improve in strategies and become for many the most skilled player for 1v1 and one of the best players in AoC?
Chris: I almost think it was the other way around, lots of thing in AoC have been reserve and applied by me to understand the economics business. As an example, you are the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) in AoC controlling your villagers and allocating your resources. You choose when to do upgrades, buy units and take strategic actions, and you might not have the perfect information at the time but you can make reasonable guesses and approximations. Business leaders do that all the time and it has helped me evaluate their personality's and track records
Adolfmv: So you are the man in a little farm and become it and empire 11. But what about MR games you gotta improve a lot there, Dont you?
Chris: I still have to improve a lot of ways on many different settings and situations, and I will if I see that I need to in order to obtain the results I want. Fortunately, my network of teachers and practitioners has grown immensely in the last 6 months. As for MR particulary, my major mistike is that I often judge the map too quickly which decreases my strategic flexibility.
Adolfmv: Who has been your hardest opponent to beat in all this time?
Chris: That's a pretty though question. I have in my head a small list of games that carried some strong emotional weight where I played really great and still lost the games. Some of those have provided great lessons for me. I've never really felt helpless vs an opponent when I'm my A game so I'm not too sure.
(Note: Chris analyzes some of those games in an article found here)
Adolfmv: But someone must be challenge can you tell me. who its the biggest challenge for you?
Chris: Such a difficult Question, Because, Unfortunately, if you look at the top 15 on the on the regular ladder not a single one will play againts me. Lately, I would say Viper has been a challenge, especially on water maps. He has some good potential and is fairly strategically sound. Earlier this year Erhan was getting very good on 1v1 Huns ara. And i've always had trouble vs Ruso on continental. I've seen Feage's games from this last tourney and he was playing very smart too, so he could potentially be a big challenge
Adolfmv: Yeah, About the top 15 ladder, Do you think voobly points system should discount points from players who dont play on their account cause they already on the top?
Chris: I think the rating system is very skewed. Inactive players who are not on the top ranks should not be able to hold those ranks. I could easily get a friend to go on a 1600 account and play 2v2 all the way up
to 3000, but it would be meaningless. I dont think any of those top players are worth their salt if they didnt play vs other 2400-2600 to get there.
Adolfmv: About the last WCL 7 Why you did choose to play with CSK and not with L_Clan?
Chris: I Was interested in having fun in the tournament but not competing to win it. I also didn't want the normal attention I recieve when I was just playing for fun without any training.
Adolfmv: Why do you think Daut doesn’t accept your Challenges? People wait so badly to watch you both play.
Chris: I really dont know. He has generaly been a good opponent in AoC and AoM so im not sure what has changed. Maybe now that he is the #1 rating on rm general he doesn't want to do anything to risk it?
I'm only speculating, you would really have to ask him about that.
Adolfmv: We will wait for that game. Moving on... What do you think has made you good for this game?
Chris: That would definitely have to be my passion. I naturally love this game and no matter how many times I try to leave it, it somehow finds a way to lure me back. Every. Single. Time.
Adolfmv: 11 But come on gives us some advice! Hotkeys maybe?
Chris: I seriously think that anyone can become very good if they enjoy it so much that they continually improve themselves by practicing and learning from their losses.
Adolfmv: Thats not much 11. What is the most exciting game you've ever played?
Chris: There is one game that had me completely worried on the edge of my seat, playing my brains out. There was a viking war regicide fortress tournament. It was sponsored by L_Clan_ARBALET. Part of the prize of winning the tournament was that Arbalet got to play against you. I thought I was pretty smart and good at viking wars coming off of a tourney win with no losses, getting relics and going for mass ranged+rams
pretty much every single game. But Arbalet was practicing a strategy where he did a very fast 70 vil boom with viks and fast champs with the armor upgrade, trebs from the castle, and goes stright for your economy. His strategy caught me 100% off guard and i didn't see anything like it during the tournament. I lost my starting Castle and several tc's before i even started to fight back. I was very worried that I would lose to the tournament sponsor when I won the tournament, which would be pretty Surprising. I boomed back everywhere and luckily champs die quickly to tc fire, and eventually won the game, but it was more of a relief than a victory.
(Note: You can check the mentioned game here)
Adolfmv: Would love to see that record!! But tell me how do you see the future of AoC do you think it will live for ever?
Chris: Im sure lots of seasoned AoC veterans still have it on their hard drives . I can't Predict the future, But if the past is any indication AoC has been steadily growing and if the competion and spetator of the game are there it's likely we will see it around for a long time.
Adolfmv: Pretty much every player has a goal on this game, some people want high rates, other cash, fame, or even friends. What are your goals and ambitions on the game?
Chris: There are many things that keep me attached to this game. I am competitive, I do enjoy playing AoC with friends. I have to make money somehow. And fame is an insteresting thing, Both good and bad. Most of all though it's the fact that I really love AoC.
Adolfmv: We are getting near the end, Chris do you wanna say something to our readers?
Chris: No matter what you are passionate about, make sure you keep a strong healthy dose of it in your life.
Adolfmv: For the last, lets play a game I call "Fast answer"! Let me expalin the rules. I will say something and you've got to answer quick as posible with just a few words. Just say the first thing that comes to your mind. Ready?
