I've always listened to the game soundtrack while playing before DE and the DE soundtrack since DE.
I was curious what you folks do.

I don't remember the name of the first song on the soundtrack but the DE version is at best a feeble imitation of the original.Ah DE music. I'm really torn by it to be honest. It sounds great and Todd Masten did a great job with AOE1 DE Music but when it came to AOE2 DE the altering of melodies and adding his own twist took away the originality of the older themes, obviously it's minor and my opinion on it is not as impactful.
There are people who like the change, and I have to give credit where it's due and that I think the remakes make the game feel more modern.
I just wish they kept the original melody and not alter it so much. Compare Tazer or Neep Ninny Bod and you'll see what I mean. Those were my top two songs and it just doesn't sound right to me in DE.
As for game sounds in general. I much prefer the old ones, some of the new ones are okay but the old ones just fit with me much better. Those iconic death sounds are so great, the YAOOO from a dead male unit is my all time favourite and I was sad to see it go.
If a game has a great soundtrack I hate playing without it so when I get to the point where the songs are running on repeat in my head so much they make me nauseous I take it as a sign it is time to give it a rest for a bit.Absolutely not, for sanity reasons any game I've put hundreds of hours into is getting its soundtrack muted, no matter how good it is.
Shamburger is the only one faithful to the originalI don't remember the name of the first song on the soundtrack but the DE version is at best a feeble imitation of the original.
Some of them like Tide Me Over Warm 'em Ups have super different atmospheres to the originals and that one in particular has this whole extra section at the end which I find to be rather excellent. I don't like to compare them because they are essentially different songs.Shamburger is the only one faithful to the original
That's the first song that plays after civs themes
Do you just mean melody? That might be true but it has a completely different feel.Shamburger is the only one faithful to the original

Yea! After that, every melody is completely altered. I hope if they ever revisit the old songs. They stay faithful go the original theme. I know vitalis eirich did some remakes but people don't like the way he did them (something about too much reverb or something)Do you just mean melody? I feel like the melody for the second track (Beat On Your Behind?) sounds more or less the same aside from all the dressing up it has? I recognize the song from the original it is, I mean.Yea! I personally think his remasters are great.
Yeah you are a poser if you haven't listened to the soundtrack enough times on YouTube to remember the song titles.Lol I feel like a fraud. Here I thought I was an AOE fan but I never knew the songs had names, let alone which is which.
I love having the music playing at all time, especially the intros, and when I watch streams of people who use the original sounds mod, it does bring some nostalgia but I much prefer the modern sounds.
