I have a solution to the AoE2 vs AoE4 debate

I sincerely support this. I first played AoE3 as a kid then maybe a year later AoE2 so AoE3 is the ultimate nostalgia game for me. People here just see it as a complete failure, something not even worth their time bashing and this really saddens me.

I don't exactly know how people reacted when AoE3 first came out since I was just a kid then, but like I said a while ago, I think there wasn't, isn't and won't ever be a single AoE community. Each AoE game has its own community and they all kinda hate each other. Microsoft assumed that making AoE4 more akin to AoE2 instead of progressing through history like the first three games did would surely attract AoE2 fans and avoid the "AoE3 mistake" and see how that turned out. Diehard AoE2 fans really just want AoE2 and I don't really like this mindset, being an AoE3 fan and all.

Once you have played Aoe2 you cant enjoy Aoe3, let alone Aoe4.
Aoe2 is an evergreen masterpiece. Aoe3 and Aoe4 are mediocre games at best.

It was the first time I experienced a game sequel being so much worse than the previous. Booted up Aoe2 and actually felt relief.

AoE4 has quite the same feeling of disappointment when you start it up and begin playing doesn't it.

I've been having fun with AoE3. Been playing several games every day. Now regularly beating the hard AI. Hardest and then extreme is next.

Honestly I kinda get why the pros have gone over to AoE4. It's refreshing to play something different for a change even if it's obviously inferior.

You got it backwards. AoE 3 community is different from AoE 2 community because most of AoE 2 community was grossly disappointed with the game and after playing through it a bit, didn't want to touch it again and went back to AoE 2 (me included... i was looking forward to it but it's not even close to 2's level). It's obvious that people who still played AoE 3 would be different ones.
There could have been a single AoE community if AoE 3 was up to par. Sadly it wasn't. The game is way too different from predecessor to be called Age of Empires. It's a decent game but not AoE.

And now AoE 4 came out when nobody needed it since AoE 2 was rapidly flourishing and all AoE 4 did was stump its growth so it's obvious it would receive backlash.

Yeah this really the key point. AoE4 does not feel like it was strictly necessary and DE is objectively an underwhelming remaster that seems like it would probably have been far better if it had received all the resources allocated to development of AoE4 instead.

They can (almost) all be underwhelming, i see no issue with such statement. DE is definitely among the better remasters in the gaming world but it does have a lot of issues too. IMO remasters should be compared to base games, not to each other.
DE has loads of improvements in QoL, graphics, server based multiplayer having better ping, frequent patches keeping meta fresh and/or perfecting balance but it also has crucial flaws like all the teamgame issues making the mode borderline unplayable to many, bugs being added with new patches, some of old issues not getting fixed.

I disagree with your assessment of DE as a remaster but otherwise yes.
