I recently notices a lot of experts doing thumb ring as soon as castling (along with xbow + bodkin). I don't know if it was always like that. I always did thumb ring pretty late, either when I have 30+ ca's and excess resources, or usually while imping. Is it really worth getting thumb ring as soon as castling?
More generally, what is the order of upgrades/resource allocation priority that you follow in castle age?
Starting situation: You just reached castle age.
Wheel, 1st wood up, 1st farm up done in feudal, 1st gold up done while castling. fletching, 1st archer armor, bloodlines done while castling, 4 ranges are ready to pump ca's). Let's say you have 500w,500f,400g,200stone (I don't remember correctly, but I think this is approximately the resources you have got on hitting castle age)
Here's what I generally go for (approximate of course, i dont really follow anything like this, and every game is different to some extent, but this is my general idea of importance):
bodkin
xbow (if I have 5 or more archers)
bow saw
vils (non-stop)
elite skirm (if 10+ skirms, still depends)
pump cas (non-stop at least from 3 ranges)
2nd tc
2nd archer armor up
3rd tc
university
ballistics
heavy plow
5th arch range
thumb ring
hand cart
4th tc
1st stone up (if mining stone with 6+ vils)
6th arch range
imp up
husbandry while imping
2nd gold up while imping
Hope I didn't miss anything. Actually I tend to forget a lot of those, and sometimes the eco situation demands something else. But as I said, this is my idea of priority.
I have doubts regarding a lot of these, esp. heavy plow, thumb ring, ballistics, 2nd armor up, hand cart. What do you think?
