ruso asked this on aocgroup and it was really easy to deactivate game sounds and just let the music but cant remember, you had to execute a .bat or a registry entry or something
Hm... Why not just go to "Options", and then move "Sound Volume" to "Off", leaving "Music Volume" as it is (or moving it up towards "High")? Or move both sliders up/down until you get the desired result.
Yes, Darkralf, you`re right, I didn`t realize that. I don`t listen to the music when playing, but I do when watching recs, just open WinAmp and play songs - I found music much, much louder than in-game sounds, so when I want to hear AoC sounds + music, I usually put music volume in WinAmp to like 20% :P Meaning that when played on 100%, I almost don`t here any AoC sounds at all.
this seemed to work but renamed like 2 drs files on DATA folder and then in the game in options i put music volume on minimum level
still some sounds heard like wind, sound when someone talks, sheep found or birds singing but this is good enough a little troublesome but it works thx
although alarm when someone attacks u is still on so in big battles thats what interrupts music i hope someone remembers how to deactivate all sounds :|
OK, here`s how you can do it via registry, so it`ll work when playing online:
1) Go to Start > Run, type regedit, press OK (Registry Editor will open). 2) Go to Hkey_local_machine/Software/Microsoft/DirectPlay/Applications/Age of Empires II - The Conquerors Expansion. 3) Double click CommandLine to open it for editing. 4) Value data field should say Lobby. Edit the text so it says Lobby NoSound (capitalization is not important). 5) Press OK, close Registry Editor.
On the other hand, to make it work offline (when starting the game via desktop shortcut), do this:
1) Right click your desktop shortcut, click Properties. 2) In Target field, it should say "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Age2_X1\age2_x1.Exe" (with quotes). Add NoSound at the end, so it says "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Age2_X1\age2_x1.Exe" NoSound (don`t remove the quotes). 3) Press OK.
That`s it Here`s a complete list of command line parameters you can add there (separate them by an empty space, and do not remove the Lobby word when editing registry):
NoStartup - Skips all cinematic sequences before the game starts.
800, 1024, 1280 - Sets the screen resolution to 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, or 1280 x 1024. For example, 800 sets the screen resolution to 800 x 600, 1024 sets the screen resolution to 1024 x 768, and 1280 sets the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024. You can also set the screen resolution by clicking the Menu button during gameplay and then clicking Options. If you use a command line parameter to set the screen resolution, the game always starts at that resolution, even if you use Options to choose another resolution. Note that the interface screens before the game will always be displayed in 800 x 600 mode.
Autompsave - Automatically saves a multiplayer game every few minutes. Saved games are located in the Savegame/Multi folder.
Mfill - Fixes horizontal line problems and black screen areas that may occur with some video adapter configurations.
NormalMouse - Replaces the custom mouse pointer with a standard mouse pointer.
NOSC - Turns off detection of the Microsoft Strategic Commander game controller.
NoSound - Turns off all sounds, except those played in cinematics.
NoTerrainSound - Turns off all terrain sounds.
NoMusic - Turns off all music.
Msync - Fixes lock-up problems that may occur with some SoundBlaster AWE configurations.
SystemMemory - Use System Memory instead of Video Memory.
move ur music files into TAUNT folder and rename ur music like 332 Justin Gaybier - baby , and then when yu are playing just write the number like a taunt and the music will start...
