I don't think the term is the problem, but the fact the 'committed ranked player' group is frequently adopting the 'pro player' usage/view, which is kind of toxic/harmful in itself. It propagates a culture where you are not allowed to feel good about your own achievements in the game, because people that are better than you are still calling themselves noobs. If that particular term is gone, they will still say "I am not good at the game", or "i'm just a xxxx elo pleb" etc.Absolutely. My problem is, that "noob" is often meant as an insult ("Lol, what a noob"), though the AoE-Community is here much better than in other games (stil it happens) - and thats why I would like to see it completely gone (Not going to happen probably).
I mean, I understand the sentiment and don't think it is done with any harm in mind. They want to improve, they see that other people are much better than them, and they might realize a lot of their mistakes, so their sentiment likely comes from a similar attitude Socrates had about his knowledge. But that's the thing people should realize in a lot of life situations: Talking one person down, even if its yourself, does mean you are talking down every person who's achievements are less than yours.
