When i was totally noob and new to aoc, i loved going only siege with mong. The only thing i learnt from that is that vs non pala and non siege civs, you can go only siege with mong.
VS goth you can do scorpions and hussars/champs. Dont even bother with mangudais. I do recall a 1v1 arena game vs frodo where i was mong and he was goth, was a boom war and i went mainly scorpions, some rams a some light cav. Ended up losing though cause he made bombard cannons, flooded husk/halb and fwd'd well.
Basically if you are mong and your against brit,, aztec, japan (trebs could be a problem), vikings, maya or goth, you dont really need mangudais and can just make siege units + trash. If its a TG, make mangudai + scorpions, onagers, which is hard on eco but your best option
If you secure a lot of gold and do champs + massed elite mangudai, you can hold goths without problems, but in realistic situations goths counter mongols. Champ is ofcourse the counter to elite husks. Hussars can also do and may be more practical from a gold perspective.
@ Carlos.
Do HCs work vs Huskies? They're gunpowder units, not archers, so .... do they?
'Cause if they do, then all HC civs would only have to pop HCs, right?
And what is the best counter for Huskies? Palas? Isn't there something cheaper and easier to pop?
HC works vs huskarls, but not on its own, protect them with champs or hussars. A pure huskarl mass can overwhelm a pure HC army normally, and even if it cant can raid the player doing hcs to death.
Anyway the answer to your doubt is that HCs are an important unit to use in combos for civs having them if you want to counter goth mass.
