Have you tried to reinstall the game? Try installing it someplace other than Program Files. Uninstall AoC, unistall AoK, install AoK, install AoC, install 1.0c patch.
Read-only folders is default Win7 behavior, and it doesn`t mean those folders are truly just "read-only"
Tell me, is the Read only option grayed out, or it comes back even if you untick it? Also, Read only tick box has 3 states - empty, ticked, box ticked. Which one do you see?
Hi I am facing the very same problem that Mia faced i cant record or play in recorded games(even single user vs comp )I have been facing facing this problem for almost 2 months now everyting happend to Mia is happening to me i cant change the permission of saved folder from read only triedHey Mia, nice to see u again. There are few things which can be. I think ur AOC has problem to write the mgx file on ur hard disk. In most cases, it can be caused by some security issues, and users privileges.
Try these things, maybe one of them gonna work. U may try combination of these paragraphs, or one individually:
-run AOC as administrator, see if error is fixed
-make sure SaveGame folder does exist in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\" folder ( or the folder game is installed )
-uninstall and reinstall game on "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\" folder ( x86 extension comes from 86 cpu 32- bit technology, the older one)
-uninstall and reinstall game on C:\AOC ( some different location than "Program Files" )
-try to disable UAC for windows 7 ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -on-or-off ). This can work because Windows 7 with this program blocks writing of files inside some system folders such is "C:\Program Files\". SaveGame folder doesnt nececerlly need to be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\" ( the AOC folder ). Somtimes it can be hidden in some system folders such is "My Documents" or "C:\Users\[user]\"... and windows 7 can block writing into these folders using UAC - user accouts manager).
Windows 7 has some difference than XP. We can say that, in theory, windows 7 upgrades XP. So, every old game or program in win 7 starts with some kind of "old platform" which is still supported by some kind of standard. Important thing for understanding, is that this old platform is supported practically "virtually" in win 7, since x64 technology needs to "emulate" older x86....
So, dont worry, we will find what is problem. If u gonna need, u may call me, and I would find some time to help u in real time
