hi all, this is my first post !
Just want to say hi to all AoC players out there. I played this game for very long time, with pauses, and lately I was trying to play on LAN with friends but it was impossible. So I found gameranger which had an announcement about a mod AoFE which supposedly had some multiplayer fixes. I downloaded that with still no luck, but it got me a bit interested to the game. Due to boredom I started to dig a bit into AoFE site and I came across a video of description of the barbarian AI where ZeroEmpires was talking and I thought what an epic british accent and what a funny video, 1 hour long, and I NEVER thought I'd make it to watch an 1-hour video of a game. ZE's videos were epic and I watched a lot of them, even though they are repetitive "whatsoever/harassment" every 30 seconds but that made it kind of funny. Then I learned about voobly, and reading a guide there, I was finally able to play in LAN after trying all! I had to disable DHCP for my internal IP and that worked out.
after watching so many videos I realised how noob I was, I bet everyone was like this when playing vs PC. Not creating new TC's, not luring boars, not giving much attention to scouts, not doing micro, mindless spamming paladins etc. So I just entered the noob lobby on voobly , and my rating went down to 14xx, kind of sad yes, but after some practice I went from 14xx to 1800 in less than a week with more than 3 15+ streaks, which I think is fairly decent despite being in the noob lobby.
I guess I have no chance other than going to the regular user lobby, so I think I will meet some of you there. I was surprised to see that there are many argentinian guys here, and most of them seem to be pretty decent. A lot of my lost games or bad gameplay were caused by lag, and I think this is limiting me already and it will limit me even more specially if I move to the 'pro' lobby. What do you guys do about this? Nothing? I'm wondering if it would possible to shift all clicks say 2 seconds earlier to calculate all clicks with lag. For example, if I want to move a vill that is gathering food to the TC to leave food and then go to gold camp, I simply click the TC, calculate the amount of time lag will shift me and click the gold mine before my vill reached TC, calculating the lag delays. This seems to work for the most part though some things like cancelling upgrades or so won't let you do this as you need to wait until upgrade is cancelled before you can choose a new one. So this seems to be an unfixable aspect of lag.
Greetings !
