Portuguese, Italians and Turks are all among the weakest civs especially on open land maps and share a focus on Gunpowder units so my idea was to just improve Gunpowder units.
Hand Cannoneer:
Hand Cannoneers have 4 big problems
1. Bad against everything other then infantry
2. Take long to tech into
3. Easy to counter
4. Miss moving targets
Possible solutions include: Reduce price, Reduce chemistry research time, Increase projectile speed, Give bonus against other units (for example Rams), Reduce damage taken from Skirmishers, Increase HP
Personally I like my idea of reducing damage from Skirmishers and dealing extra damage to Rams the most.
Bombard Cannon:
Bombard Cannons are actually useful against other Siege Weapons and Buildings but in my opinion could still use a small improvement.
I would like to see a slight Increase in projectile speed to make them better against Siege Onagers
(Elite) Cannon Galleon:
Not relevant for open land maps but could still use an improvement
I would like them to have the same splash damage radius as Bombard Cannons (Elite could get more) and get the ability to attack ground. Also I could life without the need for the Cannon Galleon technology to create them or at least reduce the cost and upgrade time.
Organ Gun
It's very hard to rate the Organ Gun since they have been bugged in multiple ways since DE came out so fix the bugs and we will see.
Janissary
I think the castle age Janissary is great (unless you play against Britons) but it falls of hard in Imperial Age, I think we could improve that by giving the Elite version additional Pierce Armour to not completely die to Arbalest.
Conquistador
They are great.
Turtle Ship
The Castle Age UT is more meme then useful I would include the speed bonus as part of the Elite upgrade and give them a useful UT. About changing the unit as it is I have no idea how good it is because if I want to meme on Islands I would always pick Portuguese over Koreans.
Non Gunpowder Ideas
Portuguese
My 3 ideas for Portuguese are:
Dock give +5 population space. This obviously only helps on water and hybrid maps but I think it's a strong bonus and no water civ uses it right now.
Give them Squires. They currently have no real counter to Cavalery in Impirial Age and this would give them full upgrade Halbs.
Faster economy upgrades (Wheelbarrow, Double-Bit Axe, Caravan etc.) This bonus could be given to any civ that needs it and I think right now that are the Portuguese.
Turks
For Turks I have 2 ideas:
Give the scout line additional price armour as a civ bonus starting in castle age. This would improve there matchup against archer civs (obviously) without needing to give them Elite Skirmishers or Onagers. Tatars have a similar bonus as UT but that could be avoided by expanding that technology to all cav units.
Make the gold longer lasting (like Tatars sheep or Mayans res). This feels kind of cheap since its so close to the Mayan bonus but Turks could really use it.
Italians
Italians are really hard because if you make there eco better in any way it makes them to good on water, so the boost would have to be on a non ship unit or tech.
